Why can't we be friends with Cuba>
kkcapricorn
by kkcapricorn  2-25-2008    2
A sketch of the history is in order. With Manifest Destiny policy of the 19th century, the United States declared all of Latin America and the Caribbean to be the America's “back yard”. As such, the US government claimed the right to decide what kinds of governments those countries have, to enforce US corporations right to plunder the resources and exploit the labor of those countries—with military force (including invasions of countries from Haiti to Nicaragua to Cuba at the turn of the 20th century) or CIA covert actions, including assassination of leaders who resist US domination.

Paki's Consider U.S. Greater Threat Than "Terrorists"
blueridge
by blueridge  1-11-2008    3
Barack Obama wants military strikes in Pakistan too, just like Bush, Cheney, and the neocons. How can invading a sovereign country be justified? Truth is the U.S. is propping up Musharraf, since the CIA helped him gain power by coup d tat in 1999. Pakis see the U.S. and Musharraf as an occupational government, just like Iraq.

They Just don't Want to Impeach--or Can't
papananook

Valerie Plame remarks: “I am outraged to learn that former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan confirms that he was sent out to lie to the press corps and the American public about two senior White House officials, Karl Rove and I. Lewis ‘Scooter’ Libby who deliberately and recklessly released my identity as a covert CIA operations officer. Even more shocking, McClellan confirms that not only Karl Rove and Scooter Libby told him to lie but (also) Vice President Cheney. Presidential Chief of Staff Andrew Card and President Bush also ordered McClellan to issue his misleading statement. Unfortunately, President Bush’s commutation of Scooter Libby’s felony sentence has short-circuited justice. “Vice President Cheney in particular knew that Scooter Libby was involved because he had ordered and directed his actions. McClellan’s revelations provide important support for our civil suit against those who violated our national security and maliciously destroyed my career. Somethin

Why Libby's Pardon Is a Slam Dunk
ALEX51
by ALEX51  3-11-2007    3
A very well written and smart editorial by Frank Rich in today's N.Y.Times.Without mincing any words he clearly points out the need for Bush and Chaney to placate Libby before he gets sick and tired of taking the blame for this SHAMEFUL administrations actions.

Lions Tigers and Bears OH MY!
Eaglewings
by Eaglewings  2-24-2007
This eagle would rather fight then flight. Eagles by nature are hunters and perhaps its time for the AMERICAN EAGLE to get its head out of its butt and start to pay attention to what is going on around the world. Of course it is difficult to soar like an eagle when surrounded by turkeys and ostriches who would much rather run and hide then stand and fight. Perhaps Franklin had it right when he wanted to name the TURKEY as the national symbol as opposed to the EAGLE?

"a clandestine operation is an operation sponsored or conducted by governmental departments or agencies in such a way as to assure secrecy or concealment. Such an operation differs from a covert action in that emphasis is placed on concealment of the operation rather than on the concealment of the identity of the sponsor."

Suggests that John Negroponte, the director of national intelligence, is just a figurehead. The real intelligence operations are run by the military and outside of his jurisdiction.
