What the Strida folding bike is and isn't
Lexica
by Lexica  10-7-2008
I'm a little dubious of the part about the saddle is meant to be a little closer to the crank than with a normal bike, so you'll pedal with slightly bent knees. The advantage of this is that you can put both feet on the ground while in the saddle. Like I said, forget everything you know about bikes. Forget everything I know about bikes, okay. But pedaling or pumping with one's knees bent, regardless of what kind of vehicle or machine is being pedaled or pumped, is tiring and less efficient than having one's legs more fully extended. Hm.

Bill Maher: New Rules - Look Beyond The Candidates’ Skin Color

Cont.... And it’s true, he’s spent his entire life shuffling from one low-paying government job to another. Well, except those years he spent in prison. Typical! And between you and me, he’s not very articulate. Oh, he may have some street smarts, but he’s not what you call an educated man. He freely admits he’s ignorant about the economy. And apparently the only thing his white running mate knows how to do is crank out one baby after another. And now of course, her teenage daughter is pregnant out of wedlock. Because she learns it at home! But that doesn’t mean we should assume all white people are like that, just because so many of them are.

500 Billion Tons of Prehistoric Organic Matter May Massively Accelerate ‘Global Warming’
Silkweaver
by Silkweaver  7-21-2008    6
While some dismiss the 52-year-old as an alarmist crank, his theory is steadily gaining credibility in the scientific community. "There's quite a bit of truth in it," Julian Murton, member of the International Permafrost Association, told Reuters. "The methane and carbon dioxide levels will increase as a result of permafrost degradation."

30 Upcoming Movie Sequels to say Why???
revenantdm
by revenantdm  6-7-2008    4
Maybe I am jaded from working on movies (and many of them went straight-to-video) but the on;y ones I see with positive potential outside the stars are National Treasure 3, The Descent 2 (read the Book -they may get it right for once!), Ice Age 3 (2 was great no matter what they say), Ghost Rider 2 (It's Cage but it is a damn good story too), The Untouchables: Capone Rising (a prequel to the 1987 hit) and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (face it folks, Archeology and Pulp-Style cliffhangers will rock because of Indiana Jones!) My biggest disappointment on this list? Easily, People Under the Stairs 2. It was a horrible movie in 87 and I do not see how a sequel will help.
