Legal Translation & Jurisdiction
jillsimpson01
by jillsimpson01  Today 12:58 AM
The large freedoms that the Internet provides, allows criminals to take advantage of millions of users each year. Policing and prosecuting internet criminals is very expensive and difficult for many reasons. This is because criminals maybe located throughout the world and their criminal activity may only been conducted in a particular country or municipality and communications maybe routed through several countries. As a result, there are often jurisdictional problems that require the involvement of local, state, and federal offices in addition to legal translation workers and all foreign governments involved in the crime

Sedition Act of 1918
katsteevns
by katsteevns  Yesterday 8:49 PM    11
U.S. citizens, including members of the Industrial Workers of the World union, were also imprisoned during World War I for their anti-war dissent under the provisions of the Sedition Act. Anti-war protesters were arrested by the hundreds as speaking out against the draft and the war became illegal under this law.

U.N. on Israeli War Crimes
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  11-5-2009    2
The Goldstone Report now has been approved overwhelmingly by the UN General Assembly. The report calls for Israel to investigate it's war crime accusations...and for the Palestinians to investiage theirs -- and says the slow starvation of over a million and half people in the Gaza Strip should stop. Now, it seems it goes to the Security Council. Which means, if things go as usual, the USA will veto it and it will end there. The USA has does similar actions at the UN for decades, protecting Israel, no matter what. The USA House of Congress has even gone on record, this week, opposing this war crimes report. Israel yesterday seized a ship with weapons and said they come from Iran and this was a war crime...also pointing out that Russia, the USA, China, etc. are all guility of war crimes. The conclusion appears to be that war is a war crime. Everybody's guilty. And let's just forget it. ...um, except when talking about the Nazi's of WWII or the Bosnian Serbs curre

Troubling Signals on Free Speech
kareval
by kareval  11-1-2009    1
The ambiguously worded United Nations Human Rights Council resolution could plausibly be read as encouraging or even obliging the U.S. to make it a crime to engage in hate speech, or, perhaps, in mere "negative racial and religious stereotyping." This despite decades of First Amendment case law protecting such speech. To be sure, the provisions to which I refer were a compromise, stopping short of the flat ban on defamation of religion sought by Islamic nations, and they could also be construed more narrowly and innocuously. It all depends on who does the construing. Is it "negative stereotyping" to say that the world's most dangerous terrorists are Islamists, for example? Many would say yes. more at source

5 now in custody in Richmond High gang rape
ofcapri
by ofcapri  10-29-2009    2
Follow up on previous rape clip I posted. This is one of the most appalling clips I have posted and I was even hesitant in posting it but people have got to be aware of this kind of crime and what happens right here in this country. The clip is not only appalling but the actions of the people that witnessed the rape are as guilty as the people who committed the crime. I just don't understand that not even one person would not come to the aid of this poor girl. I fear that poor girl will never recover to any state of normalcy after what has happened to her. My heart certainly goes out to her and her family. How to help Richmond High School is accepting cards and donations for the victim and her family. They can be mailed to the school at 1250 23rd St., Richmond, CA 94804-1011. Make checks out to the Richmond High Student Fund. Backdoor Legislation: Obama Signs Hate Crimes Bill with Defense Bill
blueridge
by blueridge  10-28-2009    6
How to Pass Unpopular Legislation 101: Attach them to Defense Spending. This is how Bush administration got through REAL ID. This is contrary to the purpose of Congress which should read and debate ONE BILL AT A TIME, instead of this fraudulent manipulation through "must pass" Defense bills. As for the bill itself, while a woman could slap a man for being too forward in a bar now normal men cannot do the same to a pressing homosexual who might "hit on them" without being charged with a new Federal "Hate Crime". Some are just "more equal than others" now and have Special Protection of the Federal government ABOVE all other U.S. citizens.
