Shortly after their father died, on June 12, 2004, each contending brother had himself crowned King Pakubuwono XIII. One coronation was held inside the palace, one outside, at the mansion of a friend. When the time came to commemorate their father’s death, palace insiders say, the princes carried out separate tomb-sealing rituals: two teams of masons, two teams mixing cement, two solemn ceremonies. When the older prince expelled the younger one, a sister who was the keeper of the keys was exiled from the palace along with him and hid the keys. With the keys out of reach, neither those inside the palace nor those outside could open the giant padlocked doors of the chamber where palace treasures and ritual objects are kept. As a result, neither coronation included all the rites and the relics needed to anoint a Surakartan king. “There is no king,” said Mr. Soedarmono, a professor at the State University. “Neither one is king. When you write about them, you can just call them mister.”

POPSBush Insists Iran Biggest Terror Sponsor Abu Dhabi
Bush said Iran funds militant groups such as Hamas, Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad and sends arms to the Taliban in Afghanistan and Shiite extremists in Iraq. "The other major cause of instability is the extremists embodied by al-Qaida and its affiliates," His words brought a stern response from Iran's foreign minister, Manouchehr Mottaki, to end what he called U.S. meddling. "Mr. Bush has tried unsuccessfully to undermine our relations with the countries of the region. We believe his mission has totally failed. We have making strides in building ties with the region, politically, economically and even in security," Mottaki told Al-Jazeera television. "It is much better if the Americans had stopped intervening in the region's affair." Cosgriff told Bush that he took it "deadly seriously" when an Iranian fleet of high-speed boats charged at and threatened to blow up a three-ship U.S. Navy convoy passing near Iranian waters. The American ship commanders were preparing to open fire

POPSCartoon SEX and Spanish Royalty don't mix "Spain has developed the most lurid pornography in Europe, with magazines and television shows dedicated to the sex lives of the rich and famous. King Juan Carlos, 69, has not himself been entirely immune from scandal. A decade ago he was upbraided for mixing during his summer holidays with a highly questionable set of Mallorca businessmen. Under Spanish law, introduced in 1995, anybody who insults the royal family can face up to two years in prison. The public prosecutor argued that the cartoon was "clearly degrading and objectively defaming" and was "obviously an attack" against "the honour" of the prince because of "the deliberate and unjustified use of his image, in evident and conscious contempt of the Crown, causing notable hurt to its institutional prestige"."

POPS Bahrain's Crown Prince Accuses Iran “While they don’t have the bomb yet, they are developing it, or the capability for it,” he said – the first time one of Iran’s Gulf neighbours effectively has accused it of lying about its nuclear programme. It is not a position from which to mince words. In an interview with The Times the Crown Prince has become the first Arab leader to jettison the language of diplomacy and directly accuse Tehran of seeking nuclear weapons. The US Fifth Fleet is based here, its main carrier battle group tasked with securing the Strait of Hormuz. The King Fahd causeway to Khobar makes Bahrain a gateway to the richest oil reserves on Earth in eastern Saudi Arabia. There is no suggestion – yet – of an Iranian invasion of Bahrain. But even as the kingdom throws up skyscrapers to compete with Dubai and Abu Dhabi for regional financial dominance, its security forces are on high alert for evidence of Iranian-backed “sleeper cells” that could bring them all tumbling down.

POPSInterview with Jordan's Prince Hassan Extensive, multipart interview. Crown Prince Hassan (the late Hussein's brother) is no dummy; he is an excellent, hard-headed, realistic observer of Middle Eastern politics who works for peaceful coexistence rather than ideological triumphalism.

Shock waves follow in the wake of astonishing news: science has proven the existence of telepaths. Amid media frenzy, panic, and bloodshed, Earth's government steps in to restore order--and establish tight control over the newfound special population . . . by any means necessary. Ambitious senator Lee Crawford spearheads the effort, overseeing the creation of the Psi Corps--an elite unit charged with tagging and monitoring all telepaths "for their own protection." But the real agenda behind the crackdown is one of government control. Many question the telepaths' origins, while others view them as a coveted weapon. As the Corps tightens its iron grip, the stage is set for a cataclysmic confrontation--one in which the future of Earth will be decided. Dark Genesis: The Birth of the Psi Corps (The ten
