POPSBill To Increase Domestic Oil Production Included in the legislation is a measure authored by Senator Jim Bunning which would establish a program to help support and promote clean, coal-to-liquid fuels. “I appreciate Senator Bunning’s leadership on the issue of promoting greater use of technology to convert coal into liquid fuel,” Senator McConnell said. “The more fuel derived from coal we can use, the less oil we will need, thus reducing prices at the pump.” Coal is a vital part of America’s energy production, and an important part of Kentucky’s economy and history. The coal industry creates over 60,000 jobs in Kentucky, including approximately 15,000 coal miners. Over half of the country’s electricity is generated by coal, and coal constitutes over 90 percent of America’s fossil-fuel resources.

POPSSecond Life Founder Steps Down Given that Linden Lab's CTO stepped down last December, this might be a sign that the company is crumbling. But more likely it's a sign that it's growing up. As Pasick implies here, Rosedale is probably better at thinking up ideas for a startup than running a mature company.

POPSTime for a change: Moto's CTO heads out, too This move makes sense. Padmasree Warrior had been closely aligned with Zander's program. Look for her to reappear, however. She's smart and experienced, particularly in chip technology. This wasn't her last act.

POPSA Cool C-level job? This is either a cool job -- or the worst job on the planet. Matt Marshall snapped up news that Obama, if elected, would appoint a "chief technology officer" who would try to make sure that goverment meetings are open. Somehow, I suspect the most interesting meetings will still be behind closed doors. But other elements of the Obama tech program are sure to light up the eyes of many in silicon valley.

POPSRockMe. Online Music Festival
This is Me.dium's Dudeofmusic blog. I had a chance to chat with him, Rose Hill Drive's Jake Sproul and the the CTO of Pandora internet radio, Tom Conrad. I love Pandora and apparently, they love Me.dium. Me.dium's a browser add-on that allows you to see other people that are online the same time you are. It's hard to explain but it is a surreal experience. Within the browser client there is a chat box and a interactive "world" where you can see what sites other users are on and jump around from site to site with them... all while chatting together. RockMe. (http://rockme.dium.com/) is an event that harness Me.dium, allowing users to discover, meet and share their favorite artists. Get the browser add-on, http://me.dium.com/tutorial Interact with who's on your blog with the Me.dium widget: http://rockme.dium.com/ What will the browser applications of the future do?! Teleport me into the computer where I can visit my Second Life home as me, and leave my avatar in the invento
