POPSGustav Forces 'Substantial' Changes to RNC Making lemonade from meteorological lemons. Bush and Cheney were both big problems for the RNC this year, being about as popular as athlete's foot. People will be glad to see them elsewhere. The telethon idea reminds me of the blood donor bit from Primary Colors . Still, Gustav demonstrates how sadly unprepared we still are -- there are still people living in FEMA trailers . Let's hope everything goes well for the Gulf States.

POPSBush has been "falsely" Accused? As if Bush's energy politics have helped any. Failed policies for 8 solid years. No cars made in America with better gas miles, no solar industry compared to the level we should be, no wind, only hot air from the rear

POPSUnited States sends diplomat to meet with Iranian official Wow - strict orders not to engage in one-on-one discussions aside - this seems to be a HUGE deal. Should something positive develop here, in addition to hopefully avoiding another military conflict, it would likely send oil prices significantly lower. Curious what kind of implications this will have on the election. My first thought is that it helps Obama because he's been such an advocate of dialog, but my gut tells me i must be missing something there because it's highly unlikely that the Bush administration would do something so seemingly helpful to Obama.

POPSFailed Oilman Bush Acts Again He was a failure as an oilman and as a President. More offshore drilling wil have no effect on the price of oil and most sane people know this. One could therefore speculate if this is driven more by George's twisted relationship with his father or just another example of his gut feeling thinking. Next year can't come soon enough! This man has done enough damage already.

POPSTony Snow, Dies at 53 Robert Anthony Snow was born June 1, 1955, in Berea, Ky., the son of a teacher and nurse. He graduated from Davidson College in 1977 with a bachelor's degree in philosophy, and he taught briefly in Kenya before embarking on his career as a journalist. He became a nationally syndicated columnist, and in 1991 he became director of speechwriting for President George H.W. Bush. Snow had his colon removed and underwent six months of chemotherapy after he was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2005. In 2007, he announced that his cancer had recurred and had spread to his liver. He resigned from the White House weeks later and was replaced by his deputy, Dana Perino. After taking time off to recuperate, Snow joined CNN as a conservative political correspondent early this year. Snow is survived by his wife, Jill, their son Robbie and their daughters Kendell and Christie.

POPSBush praises McCain for GI Bill McCain opposed McCain vehemently opposed this (Webb) bill, yet here's Bush thanking him for helping pass it! What is with these guys? McCain offered a skimpier version, insisting that paying college for Iraq vets would encourage them to leave the service when they could (better to offer them worse benefits so they'll stay, I guess, is the old soldier's plan). 32 Second video at link.

POPSPyongyang Submits Nuclear Declaration The action, one step along the road to getting North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons, comes after the U.S. and four other nations softened their demands on what North Korean leader Kim Jong Il had to declare, and waited an additional six months to see it. Those seeking a tougher stance on the hard-line regime, which has lied about its nuclear past before, are expected to view the latest declaration as part of a high-stakes diplomatic game. Others will label it a victory for the Bush administration, saying the declaration is a good step forward in getting North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons.

POPSBush To Press Congress On Offshore Oil Drilling Bush also will reiterate his call for development of oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska, Perino said. McCain has opposed drilling in the refuge, maintaining that the pristine areas in northeastern Alaska should be protected from energy development. On Monday, McCain made lifting the federal ban on offshore oil and gas development a key part of his energy plan. The Arizona senator said states should be allowed to pursue energy exploration in waters near their coasts and receive some of the royalty revenue. Bush has made clear in recent weeks that the drilling moratorium in coastal waters should end to allow for more domestic oil production and help "take the pressure off the price of gasoline." Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic candidate for president, opposes lifting the ban on offshore drilling and says that allowing exploration now wouldn't affect gasoline prices for at least five years.

POPSEconomist: We Can't Afford Not to Address Global Warming So says Dr. Frank Ackerman, Economist, Tufts University & Stockholm Environment Institute in response to a promised Bush veto of climate legislation. Agence France-Presse : Bush warned that the bill "would impose roughly six trillion dollars of new costs on the American economy," and was the "wrong way to proceed." White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said Bush would veto the bill "if it were to pass in its current form." Not surprisingly, this is BS. The legislation includes " cap and trade " provisions, which would open new markets.

POPSMcClellan Would Be 'Glad To' Testify Don't get too excited, there's this : Think Progress reported this afternoon that White House spokesperson Dana Perino told reporters Friday during a press conference that the White House could possibly stop McClellan from testifying before Congress...

POPSSome Bushies Have a Conscience Oh my. Surely Perino could do better than the "disgruntled employee" excuse? I find it interesting that emerging facts track exactly what us elitist leftest were saying all the time. HA!

POPSWhite House 'Puzzled' by McClellan's Book Yeah, that's a real stumper. I mean, why would anyone tell the truth? As I pointed out earlier , Scottie's written a "not my fault" book. Sooner or later, everyone's going to write one, Bush and Cheney will look around, and see only fingers pointing at them. There's no such thing as "honor among thieves."

POPSBush Wants $6 Mil. for Iraq Cops; Cuts for US Cops This isn't the first time that I've felt the urge to remind Bush that he's not the president of Iraq -- he's the president of a whole 'nother country. He keeps saying that it's his job to keep Americans safe, but he never gets around to actually doing that, does he?

POPSBush Vetoes Farm Bill I have no idea what he's talking about here. "A tax increase?" Pure BS. And the argument about "high food prices" is BS as well -- farm subsidies support the US's "cheap food policy." In other words, subsidies decrease the cost of food. Thankfully, an override is a near certainty.

POPSBush is an Idiot Bush, never one to rely on diplomacy when bombs will do the trick, opens his mouth again and nonsense spews out. What a loser.

POPSYou Go Girl! Helen Thomas appears to be the only member of the media who believes we should all be aware of what is going on behind our backs. In fact, what's going on right in front of our faces while Bush and his scourging cabal thumb their noses at us. Torture has been mentioned briefly by anchors and news sources but then it fades away... The fact that we have used this hellish force on fellow human beings, is something that should never fade. I can't do much, for that matter almost nothing but whenever I can call attention to this dreadful act, I will! I'll spread the word or feelings from the rooftops (or maybe just youtube) about how abominable torture is. But what is even more frightening than torture is that we Americans, have elected leaders who not only use this immoral practice but hold it up as a useful tool touting "the end justifies the means". I think it's more like an end to society and the beginning of anarchy. Also watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISuY0o1Hxno

POPSBush To Speak On Reducing Greenhouse Emissions (continued)_Net emissions rise. There also isn't any viable legal instrument that will significantly alter the rate of warming. The Kyoto Protocol, which is pretty much moribund, would reduce surface warming by 0.07 degrees Centigrade every fifty years, an amount too small to measure. Kyoto failed because, by and large, no nation could meet its modest emission reduction targets."
