POPSHealth Insurance Model & The Honor System
With the right personalities, I'm sure that there would be far more in common than not in this struggle to make the system of providing health care make sense and work for nearly everyone. I believe much of the opposition means well, deep down inside, and they would just as soon see all citizens provided with reasonable health care. For policymakers, as well as those who feel the need to understand, it is important to learn enough so as to balance a sense of empathy and caring with a knowledge that self-sufficiency and motivation are robbed and diminished every time we just submit to the government and let them say, "Come to papa." Of course, it's the intuitive part that lets one know that those are even factors important to investigate, I do believe. My insight of the day is nothing more than a given basic regarding the concept of insurance. There seems to be a widely held delusion that health care costs are of certain values but that suddenly the buying of insurance coverage someho

POPS'Fear detector' being developed that will be able to sniff out terrorists Evidence that the smell of fear is real was uncovered by US scientists last year who studied the underarm secretions of 20 terrified novice skydivers. The researchers found that people appear to respond unconsciously to the sweat smell of a frightened person. Scientists at City University London now hope to develop security sensor systems that can detect the human fear pheromone. Team leader Professor Tong Tun told The Engineer magazine: 'The challenge lies in the characterisation and identification of the specific chemical that gives away the signature of human fear, especially the fear in relation to criminal acts.'

POPSThe Neuroscience of Sin! Why do we do it? Reading this article made me think of the proverbial "chicken and the egg." The article suggests that we sin because our brains are evolutionarily designed to do so. This leaves us to conclude that you cannot manage sin as it is hardwired in. I don't agree with that. I think sin is the chicken! The article does a great job of illustrating how various emotions and motives play out in the brain not the other way around. The good news is the very last paragraph. Read it for yourself...enjoy!

POPSThere is Now a Scientific Way to Measure Smelly Farts "The contraption could even have use outside of fraternity houses, Clain says, as a biosensor for harmful hydrogen-sulfide-producing bacteria in hospitals. Or dentists could use it to measure oral malodor. They’ve also received some interest from doctors with four-legged patients. “You can test the health of livestock through the quality of their farts,” Salas says. “Smell and sound can tell you a lot about their bowel movements.” When it came time to present the invention in class, though, Clain and Salas had to test their detector by making raspberry sounds and breathing on it—human exhalations contain enough hydrogen sulfide to trigger the sensor. “It’s hard to fart something really smelly on command,” Clain laments. “Besides, it provided a nicer atmosphere for those around us.” Still, their professor saw fit to award the project a well-deserved A."

POPSViking Treasure Hoard
more (at source): The hoard – which includes a silver cup estimated to be worth more than £200,000, as well as 617 coins and various silver fragments, ingots and rings, will go on display in both York and in the capital after careful conservation work which began a month ago. Experts hope the process will reveal crucial details about the Viking era. Initial examinations suggest the treasure dates to 927 or 928. Conservation experts have already revealed remarkable insights: the cup, which has been gilded inside and out, is most likely to have belonged in a church, with vines decorating its exterior – a Viking symbol of Christ. Some of the coins shed new light on the period – parts of Britain such as Staffordshire and Yorkshire were already believed lost by the Vikings and under Anglo-Saxon dominion, yet there are coins which show the Vikings were still creating their own currency in these regions. One such coin, with the word "Rorivacastr" on it, is believed to have originated from

POPSUses of solar security lights Solar security lights are the ideal protection for households and properties. They help to discourage burglars and intruders. These solar security lights, also called solar motion detector lights, contain passive infrared motion detectors which are mainly designed to sense any body heat generated by humans and animals. Such solar security lights also monitor surrounding areas and automatically trigger on the lights when any motion is detected. Most of these solar security lights have options to adjust the sensitivity and sensor angles also. One must make use of these settings so as to fine tune the lights so that a stray dog on the property would not set off the alarm.

POPSCan garden lightings help beautify one’s garden?
Garden lighting makes use of sunlight to illuminate the garden during the night. Such garden lighting encompasses everything from lighting dimly lit places to security. The garden lightings can be in the form of lamp posts, motion detector fixtures or even Christmas decorative strings that can light up the deck and patio. The greatest advantage about making use of such garden lighting is that these fixtures can be installed without the need to uproot any plants or trees. Unlike traditional electrical fittings, garden lightings do not need any wiring and so they can be placed or even rearranged according to one’s tastes. When using such garden lighting, one should remember to take into account the various changes that might occur during various seasons so that proper planning can be ensured.
