POPSThe FLORIDA BAR Dismantled Come'on Florida Bar BIG WIGS, you've disciplined and disbarred lawyers for far less of an infraction than in the case of Florida Bar Member and former disgraced Federal Judge Alcee Hastings who was "CONVICTED" and REMOVED FROM THE BENCH by the US Senate - CONVICTION on Impeachment Article 2 - for lying about his involvement in a scheme to solicit a $150,000.00 "BRIBE". And the Bar thinks Alcee is a Florida Bar Member in Good Standing? You guys are idiots to try and make "WE THE PEOPLE" believe one of your members was too corrupt to be a Federal Judge, but not corrupt enough to lose a membership in the Florida Bar ! And you call yourselves Officer's of the Court? Shame on all of you !

POPSThe Ten Oxherding Pictures - From The Manual of Zen Buddhism From The Manual of Zen Buddhism, D.T. Suzuki By Shubun (15th Century) a series of short poems and accompanying woodcuts that are intended to illustrate the stages of a Mahāyāna Buddhist practitioner's progression towards enlightenment, as well as his or her subsequent perfection of wisdom. The pictures first appeared in their present form, as drawn by the Chinese Chán (Zen) master Kuòān Shīyuǎn (廓庵師遠), in the 12th century, and may represent a Zen Buddhist interpretation of the ten stages experienced by a Bodhisattva as outlined in various Mahāyāna sūtras, most particularly the Avataṃsaka Sūtra.

POPSCongressman Hastings' Ability to Hold Office QUESTIONED !
Our U.S. Constitution is very clear regarding the text of Article I, Section 3 which "disqualifies" a Judge from holding an Office of Public Trust once he or she is impeached and convicted. Then Federal Judge Alcee Hastings' case resulted in both an impeachment and conviction, yet somehow our Constitution disappeared due to Congress' hyper-sensitivity to race relations. Times have changed however. If Congress has in fact turned a "Blind Eye" regarding this "congressional missing link" that should have prohibited Hastings from active membership in Congress, then I strongly recommend Hastings elections challengers file a formal complaint against Hastings with the Federal & State of Florida Elections Commissions. It is high time the punitive disqualification provisions of our US Constitution, which in my opinion and reading, prohibits Hastings from holding an official office of trust etc. in the United States, BE FULLY ENFORCED by the Federal & Florida Elections Commissions.

POPSWere Ancient Viruses a Key to Human Evolution? These viral fragments are fossils that reside within each of us, carrying a record that goes back millions of years. Because they no longer seem to serve a purpose or cause harm, these remnants have often been referred to as “junk DNA.” Although many of these evolutionary relics still manage to generate proteins, scientists have never found one that functions properly in humans or that could make us sick. That is until Thierry Heidmann who runs the laboratory at the Institut Gustave Roussy, on the southern edge of Paris, brought one to life. Heidmann long suspected that if a retrovirus happens to infect a human sperm cell or egg, which is rare, and if that embryo survives—which is rarer still—the retrovirus could have the evolutionary power to influence humans as a species becoming part of the genetic blueprint, passed from mother to child, and from one generation to the next, much like a gene for eye color or asthma.

POPSPsychology, Sociology most politically correct fields The first thing that Simmons does in the study with the database — which covers a range of disciplines and institution types — is to identify a politically correct cohort, reflecting largely common views on a set of issues that are seen as defining political correctness. He finds a set of issues that produce this cohort. The views are the belief that gender gaps in math and science fields are largely due to discrimination; support for affirmative action; and belief that discrimination is a key cause of racial inequities in American society. Generally, members of this cohort see race and gender as fundamental — and share that belief much more than beliefs about the curriculum or scholarship, such that the study says that “multiculturalism trumps postmodernism.” Via Tyler Cowen

POPSVictor McKusick, 86, Dies; Medical Genetics Pioneer As a child, he had planned to become a minister. Then, at 15, he developed a spreading streptococcal infection of his arm and had to spend 10 weeks in a hospital while receiving a sulfa drug, one of the first antibiotics. That experience led him to medicine.

POPSPublic Space 2 There is a connection between this and the previous clip. The first is the result of the collapse of the boundaries between the public and the private so that there is no longer behaviour which is deemed wrong in public. The second is an attempt to reconstruct that boundary.

POPSTorah Borntrager on "how I escaped the Amish" A young woman who was raised Amish, but who left the community at age 15, tells her story. This is an interview by Tim Ferris (the time-management guru) -- not what I expected to see at his blog at all, but I assume it's genuine.

POPSWrist-band for your comrade.
This has to be examined and commented on. I cannot imagine the Head of the Rhodesian Army issuing edicts to Selous Scouts over dress and getting away with it. Discipline is disciple, but common sense is common sense. If there is an overwhelming response from those doing the job that a matter has to be dealt with in a certain manner, then any reasonable senior rank would take that into consideration. I was told by an individual that I cannot wear my Rhodesian GSM on parade. My response..."Do you want that finger broken or do you want to clean your teeth from up your arse-hole?" Word of warning to the Marines. Collective dissent is Mutiny. There are arse-holes out there who would use QR&R's to pervert your desire to give homage to your comrades. You will not remember this, but these are the words scribed into history by our forefathers from the Great war... "Fuck 'em all. Fuck 'em all. The long and the short and the tall. Fuck all the sergeants and WO 1's. Fuck all the serg
