POPSRepublicans Try to Close Voting Centers. While the Republicans make false charges against a group called ACORN, for doing voter fraud...here's a real fact we can hang our hats on: Republicans - went - to - court - to - try - to - close - voting -- places. Republicans are trying to close these early-voting centers because they are near poor and minority areas. If they were near their Wall St. supporters there would be no complaint. It is true, though, BTW, that these new voting centers approved last year by a majority vote of an election board, might help Democrats...that's why the majority of Democrats on this election board voted in favor. BUT - Such actions are a non-stop battle between all the parties all the time. And this is mild compared to the non-stop efforts at gerrymandering, where the boundaries of election districts and distorted in favor of one party. Since Republicans have been in power the last eight years they are Much More guilty of this.

POPSJohn the #1 Drama Queen Appearing Sunday on ABC's "This Week," McCain said he had been too busy "working on all the other stuff" to cast a vote. Asked if he would have voted against it, McCain said he would have tried to cut the "outrageous pork-barrel spending" in the bill, but "probably would have ended up voting for it." Guess it's more about the drama and grandstanding. Is this what a McBush Presidency would look like? Obama missed the vote too but then he also avoided the grandstanding.

POPS35 Mungiki sect members arrested in Kenya “They have been charging us illegal fees and those who fail to pay the money are attacked and threatened with death,” one of the matatu operators said. They said the sect followers usually strike in the evenings. They said the Mungiki followers had sought refuge in the area after fleeing from other districts when they realised police were closing in on them.

POPSGeneral Barry McCaffrey (ret) Says More Troops Aren't The Answer In Afghanistan
More ominously, the general says, we can expect a Taliban drive to erase Afghanistan's border with Pakistan in the wild frontier provinces of Pakistan that have provided sanctuary for Taliban and al Qaida leaders and fighters since Osama bin Laden escaped there in 2001. Military means, he writes, won't be enough to counter terror created by resurgent Taliban forces; we can't win with a war of attrition; and the economic and political support from the international community is inadequate. The battle will only be won, McCaffrey says, when there's a real Afghan police presence in all of the country's 34 provinces and 398 districts; when the Afghan National Army is expanded from 80,000 troops today to 200,000 troops; when we deploy five U.S. combat engineer battalions with a brigade of Army Stryker forces for security to begin a five-year road building program that also trains Afghan Army engineer units and employs Afghan contractors and workers.

POPSPropane Viable Alternate Fuel Option for School Districts I would love to be able to take my 20 lb propane tank off my grill and put it on back of the lawn tractor to mow the lawn and then take it into the house to cook dinner and afterward attach to the vehicle in the garage and drive to the walmart for a refill. And to think it would be actually MADE IN AMERICA! What a concept!

POPSOreGon Green Candidates get Ready “The overwhelming majority of the damage done, from war to attacks on democratic rights, came with the votes of the Democrats in Washington,” Olmsted points out. “It is time for the building of a party that can be the voice of the majority to fight for our interests. Then we have a chance for real change.” (www.newmenu.org/ore gongreens4congress.)

POPSObama's Youth: Hope, Change And Snappy Uniforms 50 hours a year. 100 hours for college students, provided their type of service is deemed acceptable by a sprawling new Federal bureaucracy. Oh, and Obama's going to double the size of the Peace Corps while quadrupling AmeriCorps. I'm curious if anyone will be left to fill all the newly vacated private sector jobs. St. Barack concluded his speech with this gem: "Loving your country must mean accepting your responsibility to do your part to change it." But what if I love my country the way it is? Throwing more kerosene on the mob's torches, Obama is moving his nomination acceptance speech to Denver's 75,000-seat outdoor stadium. And is thinking about a speech at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate. Odd that he didn't choose Nuremberg. We've talked a lot about Liberal Fascism. Apparently, it wasn't a moment too soon. UPDATE: A Lizard invasion? Thanks for the LGF link, Charles!
