POPSJohn McCain the Plagiarizer? You're allowed to quote freely from Wikipedia as long as you make the proper attribuations, but it doesn't appear that John McCain did that. He should have done something like this: "A Wikipedia editor notices some similarities between Sen. John McCain's speech today on the crisis in Georgia and the Wikipedia article on the country Georgia. They appear similar enough that most people would consider parts of McCain's speech to be derived directly from Wikipedia.'

POPSCIA FactBook: Brief History Of Georgia Progress on market reforms and democratization has been made in the years since independence, but this progress has been complicated by two ethnic conflicts in the breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. These two territories remain outside the control of the central government and are ruled by de facto, unrecognized governments, supported by Russia. Russian-led peacekeeping operations continue in both regions.

POPSRembrandt's two renderings of the Binding of Isaac The first one is the one Rembrandt did late in his life, and it's arguably a much superior piece of art. In the early one, the image is violent and dynamic, in the later one, it's much quieter -- characterized by a sense of mourning and consolation.

POPSAncient cave found under church Half a dozen sources (including Fox News) used this news story with the headline "First Church In The World". Of course, they also omitted archaeologist Thomas Parker's words: "It's quite possible that there was a cave with earlier occupation which was later converted to Christian use. But to make the jump that this was actually used by Christians fleeing Jerusalem in the 1st century A.D. seems like a stretch to me."

POPSCatholic-Shiite Dialogue - Reasonable Understanding Against the background of these existing contacts between the Vatican and Muslim authorities, one can look forward with anticipation to the first meeting of the Catholic-Muslim Forum, scheduled for early November. The forum was founded following a meeting in the Vatican in March this year, which itself was the result of a letter written in October 2007 by 138 Muslim scholars from 43 countries to the pope and other representatives of the Christian churches. The topic of the forthcoming meeting is to be "Love of God and neighbour." The Vatican-Shiite dialogue is also set to continue: another colloquium is planned for two years time in Tehran. POPSWhy Oprah Winfrey Left Rev. Jeremiah Wright's Church
Of course, Hamas does the same thing, and for the same reason - to cultivate an air of legitimacy while raising a crop of hatred. How admirable that concern for her money-making ambition led Oprah to leave Wright's hateful pulpit. How sad that Obama didn't recognize the danger to his political ambition. What a tragedy that neither Oprah nor Barack could recognize the destructive, bitter hatefulness that permeates this so-called house of God. Or just didn't care beyond appearances. Why Oprah Left Wright's Church Winfrey was a member of Trinity United from 1984 to 1986, and she continued to attend off and on into the early to mid-1990s. But then she stopped. A major reason—but by no means the only reason—was the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. According to two sources, Winfrey was never comfortable with the tone of Wright's more incendiary sermons. Winfrey cited her fatigue with organized religion and a desire to be involved with a more inclusive ministry.

POPSRethinking Islam A useful article for those who study Islam or who are interested in The secularist values of Ataturk Turkey. On another note, interesting for parallel western attempts to resurrect Christianity.

POPS"The Gospel of Judas" An extremely interesting interview with two religion scholars on this and other gospels not included in the bible with some discussion on the politics of early Christianity.

POPSJesus-The Imaginary Friend I know I saw this site clipped waaay back last year sometime (maybe by John W??) , but with all the "Jesus-talk" on here lately....I figured it was high time we all took another look at the evidence (and lack of it) for these supernatural claims. ******************************************* It's a really fascinating site: www.jesusneverexisted.com

POPSJesus's Christmas letter Found this on an evangelical website. At first, I have to admit, I thought it was a parody, but I don't think it is. Incidentally, the "X" in "X-mas" is a chi, which is the first letter of the Greek word Christos. Early Christians used the Chi-Rho (which looks like an X and a P superimposed on one another, also known as "the monogram of Christ") as a symbol for Christ, and the so-called "Jesus fish" is based on the acronym iota-chi-theta-upsion-sigma (for "Iesous Christos Theou Huios Soter," or "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior").

POPSNigerian Christians join in witchhunts Witch hunting is a very ancient practice in Africa, but in the past it has not generally been something that Christians have engaged in. Western-initiated churches, which have been influenced by modernity, have tended to regard beliefs about witchcraft as superstition, and encouraged people to discard such views. African-initiated churches have taken witchcraft beliefs seriously, but have generally urged witches to repent, and teried to rehabilitate them (whereas in pagan African society witches were often thought to be incorrigible and deserving only death). But now new denominations, which appear to be mainly neopentecostal, seem to be persecuting suspected witches in a manner reminiscent of the Great European Witchhunt of early modern times.

POPSNo Code of Morals can Justify the Persecution of one people to try to relieve same from another
Remember give me liberty or give me death in early america? Can't say it is noble for americans but same sentiment is not noble or courageous for others who are defending their freedoms. Self defense is not terrorism. Every soul has a right to defend their homes, lives liberty... And BTW they do not fear death in the PRECISE manner early Americans did not fear death. Suicide is a grievious sin in Islam just as it is in Christianity. Message for flaming bigots: I will ignore any potential ignorant bigot remarks that intend to inflame, distract or decieve. Those who hate poison their own souls with their own bile. I do not waste time on ignorance that is that frozen. Those who cannot understand the Humanity includes ALL human beings, are the type I would not choose to associate in any setting anyway. Those with eyes to see question rather than swallow whole what we are told to believe in the MSM. Which incidently the courts determined it is lawful for them to lie to the public.
