POPSTwo Large Solar Projects Planned for California While I'm not extremely keen on these sort of plants -- there's no real reason to centralize solar generation like this -- it's nice to see that solar's being taken seriously. Given recent advances in photovoltaic technology, the price is coming down enough for it to be put anywhere the sun shines. In other words, there's no reason to use up huge expanses of land when you can do the same thing on rooftops. Still, any time new generating capacity comes from green tech, it's good news.

POPSThe Dark Knight May Be Struck Down By Tropic Thunder After All It couldn't last forever. Eventually someone had to knock The Dark Knight off of the box office throne. Last weekend Pineapple Express took a crack at it (well more of a pot shot really (I know, I know, bad pun) but couldn't muster quite the cash. Now as Batman heads into his fifth weekend, attendance may have finally dwindled enough for someone to topple him.

POPSIBEW Plus Credit Union using foreign web tracking
Thanks to the Firefox browser and the NoScript plug-in I found IBEW Plus Credit Union is using IndexTools.com to keep activity statistics... even after secure login the script is still showing! Bad enough that any financial institution is using traffic tracking (congratulations to PayPal - they don't), but IBEW Plus is to support local labor unions, particularly the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (ref: http://www.ibewlu357.com/). If you don't know, all U.S. labor unions strongly support "buy American" policies, so why are they using a U.K. company that is apparently based in Budapest, Hungary? The fact that they apparently teamed up with Yahoo a few years back most assuredly doesn't make me any more comfortable. Why the hell does my financial institution need to know what site I was on last, or where I went afterward. They get more than enough of that information from my credit cards. Our online security is endangered enough without adding third parties in
