POPSThe tick of the male biological clock? from the article: "He believes the risks for children of older fathers will eventually be seen to be as noteworthy as the risks facing older mothers. “It’s going to be more and more of an issue to society,” he notes." One of the most important differences that affect the male/female barrier is the biological clock tick and tack. We all remember Charlie Chaplin as an exemplar of late parenthood. And here we begin to observe that it ain't so exactly. it is still not the same as with females in many aspects, one of them in this context is the fact that for females it is a yes or no question of fertility at some point. Nevertheless it does potentially carry a crack of more understanding , maybe, to the other gender? not to mention the possible technological horizon of reproduction being departed from its crude specific and local biological origin. Fascinating....

POPSfile under "unclear on the concept"... or maybe "corporate tools of evil"? Don't eat fat-free, sugar-free, low-carb ersatz food-like products. Eat food, not too much, mostly plants. Don't take "fat-burning enzyme" pills, waste your money on a Thighmasater, or think that time on the Wii Fit will make you healthy. Walk places, climb stairs, chase your kids or grandkids or nieces & nephews around, go for a run, play basketball, or anything else that's real movement and activity. There's no substitute for the real thing, and the world would be a much poorer place if there were.

POPSNietzsche: Jesus versus Christianity Nietzsche's 'The Anti-Christ', available online, is a powerful repudiation of the bourgeoise spiritual sterility of much of practised Christian religion. He writes too of his admiration for the original Jesus, and of Buddha.

POPSObesity: the New Moral Panic This is a well written article so clipped as an exemplar of a point of view that many may share, and many may not. Its underlying claim that concern over the future is fuelled by an underlying anxiety and failure of confidence and postive orientation to the future is of broader interest.

POPSAmerica’s Toe-Tapping Menace
More: In other words, not only did these men have nice families, they had nice families who seemed to believe what the fathers loudly preached about the sanctity of marriage.Mr. Humphreys called this paradox “the breastplate of righteousness.” The more a man had to lose by having a secret life, the more he acquired the trappings of respectability: “His armor has a particularly shiny quality, a refulgence, which tends to blind the audience to certain of his practices. To others in his everyday world, he is not only normal but righteous — an exemplar of good behavior and right thinking.” Mr. Humphreys even anticipated the vehement denials of men who are outed: “The secret offender may well believe he is more righteous than the next man, hence his shock and outrage, his disbelieving indignation, when he is discovered and discredited.” This last sentence brings to mind the hollow refutations of figures at the center of many recent public sex scandals, heterosexual and homosexual, no

POPSHilary Clinton: not like the rest of us From the article: "After decades in high office, Bill Clinton can only benefit from flaunting the breadth of his reading. His wife may feel that she has far less freedom. Not least because, in some respects, the United States has lagged behind other parts of the world in admitting women to top political positions. "

POPSA WARNING TO THE DEMOCRAT PARTY CORTMEISTER262 is an exemplar of how we democrats feel about our representatives in congress... Like he, we are all sick and tired of the politics this party seems to be playing. This is our lives and our constitution the Lilly-livered politicians are messing around with. As cortmeister262 so angrily states... We need to stop voting them in, if they keep on the same track as republicans... We should all collectively shout... WE WILL NOT VOTE FOR YOU AGAIN! OUR VOTE WILL GO TO THOSE WORTHY OF IT... THE BRAVE ONES WHO ARE UNAFRAID TO SPEAK OUT AGAINST THE CRIMINALS OCCUPYING THE HIGHEST OFFICE. THOSE WHO EXPRESS THE TRUTH LIKE, DENNIS KUCINICH OR RON PAUL. MAYBE THEN THE DESCENT POLITICIANS WILL HAVE A CHANCE TO WIN AN ELECTION AND THE TWO PARTIES CAN STOP LAUGHING AND START LISTENING TO THEIR AND OUR WORDS OF WISDOM.

POPSIs India really developing? This raises an important question: is India developing or just getting richer? Foreign Affairs called it "a roaring capitalist success story" but I wonder if that's accurate. As I understand it, capitalism is about free and open competition in a fair marketplace. How can there be true competition when half the population (or more) lives in abject poverty. I would call this "mercantilism" not capitalism. If you ask me, the gap between rich and poor is anti-competitive, it insulates and entrenches the extremely wealthy, and thus erodes the dynamic elements of competition that are necessary for capitalism to function properly. Just because someone operates for profit doesn't make them a capitalist. Just because a country is making money right now doesn't make them a success. (We should also be asking these same questions about China. The long-term Growth potential we dream of in these countries may be limited by their failure to develop a middle class.)
