Australian 'cowcam'
Yassin_M
by Yassin_M  6-13-2008
When animals come to feed or drink they will be forced to pass through a laneway where the camera has been installed. "You could have a cattle station that has feral populations of horses, donkeys or camels. The watering points are there for the cattle, so the camera would let the cattle through, but if a goat or a pig tried to get in the gate would shut against it," he said. The new technology has been developed over the past four years and is now on sale in Australia for $10,000 (£4,802). For

Intelligent computers read your emotions
Silkweaver
by Silkweaver  5-30-2008
The researchers’ system extracted a large number of vocal characteristics, such as “prosodic features,” which include the rhythm, intensity, rate, and frequency of speech. Facial features were extracted holistically. Then, the researchers trained the system on several short video samples of individuals showing different emotions, from which it connected certain features with emotions.

So when I was in Boston, I went to the museum there and saw an older version of AIBO as a museum attraction, and fell in love with it! Only thing keeping me from getting one was the horrible price tag. But now Sony says that they are going to release a new version, and I would love to get one of these! They are so awesome!!!

Technology tunes into our emotions
pokkets
by pokkets  10-31-2007    2
Seems like they're trying to give computers 'intuition.' Still many of our emotions are easy for other people to pick. There may be a distinction between Florid, and subtle emotional behavior. And computers will never be able to account for the exceptions that will arise, but it's all part the education. Provided they are always a supplement to human judgment rather than a substitute. Will they ever be able to win at poker?
