POPSZounds! VA GOP chair likens Obama to Osama This is why the GOP - as it is today - needs to be removed from power. Comparing a candidate for the presidency to an infamous international terrorist is not what Americans want for their country. Fire this guy. Today. McCain says he'll need to "look at the context." Fire him, too.

POPSMcCain Constantly Lies about this Why? Everybody knows he's lying and he still does it. Its ridiculous. True, they both lie but this won is repeated over and over and is demonstrably and obviously false. He really must think the American public is stupid.

POPSPrivate Sector Caused This Mess, The Government Has To Get Us Out
from government bondage. Right. There's also a bridge to the Kremlin they'd like to sell you. Which brings us back to the current subprime mortgage crisis. When we strip away all the complexity, we discover that social planning largely led to this debacle. Government politicians and bureaucrats forced lending institutions to make un-creditworthy loans and helped create unnatural demand in the housing market by priming the pump on bad loans. I don't pretend to have enough information or expertise to know whether the Bush-Paulson bailout proposal, or some iteration of it, is necessary to avert a horrifying financial meltdown, but apparently, many experts, including conservative ones, do. Now the stability of our entire financial system is said to be at risk. It's so bad that even conservatives are considering supporting an unprecedented plan None of this would be half as troubling to me if I believed both political parties would address it in good faith.

POPSMcCain ad distorts Factcheck Called "Less than honest" by Factcheck. "Those attacks on Palin that we debunked didn't come from Obama." - despite the McCain-Palin ad insisting they did. "the McCain-Palin campaign has altered our message in a fashion we consider less than honest"

POPSFalse Internet Claims And Rumors Debunked: FactCheck.org
A few of these claims were included in a chain e-mail by a woman named Anne Kilkenny. We'll be looking into other charges in that e-mail for a future story. For more explanation of the bullet points above, please read the Analysis. CNN's Soledad O'Brien made the claim on Sept. 4 Palin slashed the special education budget: She tripled the funding per-pupil. One false rumor accuses then-Mayor Palin of threatening to fire Wasilla’s librarian for refusing to ban books from the town library. Some versions of the rumor come complete with a list of the books that Palin allegedly attempted to ban. The story is false on several fronts: Palin was never a member of the Alaskan Independence Party – which calls for a vote on whether Alaska should secede from the union or remain a state – despite mistaken reports to the contrary. But her husband was a member for years, and she attended at least one party convention, as mayor of the town in which it was held.

POPSObama birth cert rumors debunked - again Includes FactCheck photos; A knock on libel-meister Jerome Corsi, whose recent book Obama Nation alleges it was a fake. FactCheck handles the document and swats every allegation. Not all are included in the clip - see the article. Also found: a birth announcement in a Honolulu newspaper from 1961. Give it up, conspiracists. It is and always was baloney, and you got used to spread it.

POPS'Obama Sued in Philadelphia Federal Court' "If", and that's a BIG IF, this isn't all some kind of hoax or a simple case of the Obama campaign not having provided the correct information or certificate, or there's some other legitimate explanation, all hell is about to break out in the Obama campaign and Hillary Clinton will have pulled off a hell of a coup! Update; Factcheck.org (owned by The Annenberg Foundation) has a new birth certificate story. As Texasdarlin suggests in her post, this is interesting timing since Obama has just returned from Hawaii. Indeed, what a coincidence that it's today! Update on Federal Lawsuit (Things may be getting more interesting) (As TD suggests, are there links worth investigating between the Barack Obama campaign, William Ayres, the Annenbergs, and ACORN.) POPSAP Calls BS on McCain Ad The story, from Associated Press, goes on to give McCain's defense of the ad: In support of its ad, the McCain campaign cites the nonpartisan Web site Factcheck.org, which has been critical at times of McCain's spots, contending they contain false or misleading information. For example, the site says McCain's charge that Obama would raise taxes on small businesses is false, contending that the vast majority of small-business owners would see no change and that many others would see their taxes fall. Annenberg Fact Check hasn't reviewed this ad yet, so citing them as backing it up is more BS. The McCain campaign is lying when they says someone else is saying they aren't lying... Makes your freakin' head spin, doesn't it?

POPSSubstance Abuse The e-mail inflates Obama's numbers by counting his cosponsored bills, but Sarah Binder, a fellow at the Brookings Institution and an expert on legislative politics, tells FactCheck.org that often "cosponsorship does not require a commitment of time, energy or resources – let alone the political or policy ingenuity that might generate a bill idea in the first place." Tallying sponsored bills, says Binder, is "a better metric of a senator's agenda, efforts and interests." Clinton has been in the Senate a little more than seven years; Obama, a little more than three. Using the numbers above, we calculate that Clinton has been the sole sponsor of a few more bills and resolutions per year – 51, to Obama's 43. And she has steered twice as many through the Senate and almost four times as many into law per year, on average, as Obama has. from THOMAS.gov, the Library of Congress' database of legislative information

POPSBad Attack Ads Why must our politicians be LOADED TO THE GILLS, with lies, distortions and misrepresentations? I wish modern men/women could get by with just peddling THE TRUTH AND NUTTIN' BUT THE TRUTH so help me god. But as long as these expensive ads of MISLEAD work and the voters view them as The real McCoy and the genuine article without any investigation, our politicians will keep on keeping on... using libelous mudslinging, dirty rotten lies and mediocre puffery!

POPSClinton campaign responds to Obama-blackening ad UPDATE 3-7-08: Factcheck.org writes: "without further evidence to the contrary, we see no reason to conclude that this is anything more than a standard attempt to make an attack ad appear sinister, rather than a special effort to exploit racial bias" Apparently all the images are darkened, not just skin tones, and this is standard (though yet despicable) attack-ad procedure. My apologies. The Afghanistan hearings issue is still utterly bogus; they were taken by the chair of the entire committee (Biden), and Obama was in attendance. Hillary, meanwhile, missed her committee's important war hearings in Feb, preferring to stay on the campaign trail (from where she shot at Obama for not having hearings)

POPSYOU'VE GOT SNAIL MAIL It looks like the lies, and mudslinging have become a way of life in political circles and campaigns. But of all people to use such tactics, one would imagine, Hillary Clinton could never resort to such dirty tricks. After all the lies that the republican camps had flung her way hoping to smear her husband and herself into obliteration, I would think she would have become a defender of truth. I'm very disappointed with Hillary and Bill's choice to embrace the swiftboater's dirty maneuvers to win an election. If we the people keep listening to known lies and casting our votes for those who sling such lies, we deserve what we get as our leaders. In other words, we deserved George W. Bush and we deserved his efforts to FALL THE USA EMPIRE. Please read: Reasons for the fall of the Roman Empire http://killeenroos.com/1/Romefall.htm and notice the similarities. SCARY STUFF  Click here for fact check: http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/youve_got_mailers_1.html

POPS Hillary Clinton v Barack Obama FactCheck.org In the latest debate among the Democrats, Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama sparred over their plans for health care and Social Security. We found both presidential candidates guilty of exaggerations and questionable claims

POPSDemocrats Debate Redux FactCheck.org found no whoppers but the Democrats were not without their own version of spin. The entire article can be read by clicking on the clipped from www,factcheck.org above. While I support one of the Democrats, it is important that they be called on their own spin. Sometimes spin arises from confusion. Did Sen. Barack Obama confuse people and cars when discussing auto insurance in California? Obama: And, in fact, if you look at auto insurance, in California, there's mandatory auto insurance – 25 percent of the folks don't have it. The reason is because they can't afford it.

POPSSpin Removal for the Fair Tax Bill (HR 25) FactCheck.org does it again. In their analysis of the Fair Tax proposal they pay close attention to the numbers and the spin placed on those numbers by Huckabee, Tancredo and Hunter. Some of what they have to say is reprinted below:
