Reactionary anti-women "men's rights" groups go mainstream
Lexica
by Lexica  11-6-2009    9
More: Toward the end of her piece, Joyce makes a particularly fascinating point about MRAs' domestic violence arguments: Critics like Australian sociologist Michael Flood say that men’s rights movements reflect the tactics of domestic abusers themselves, minimizing existing violence, calling it mutual, and discrediting victims. MRA groups downplay national abuse rates, just as abusers downplay their personal battery; they wage campaigns dismissing most allegations as false, as abusers claim partners are lying about being hit; and they depict the violence as mutual—part of an epidemic of wife-on-husband abuse—as individual batterers rationalize their behavior by saying that the violence was reciprocal. Additionally, MRA groups’ predictions of future violence by fed-up men wronged by the family-law system seem an obvious additional correlation, with the threat of violence seemingly intended to intimidate a community, like a fearful spouse, into compliance.

Russia Reconsiders
debbyski
by debbyski  11-2-2009    2
"There's no question that Stalin is undergoing a sort of renaissance in Russia. Despite the many millions killed or sent to labor camps during his reign, many now view his rule with a sort of hazy nostalgia. "The cynical position of the Stalinphobes is that only innocent people were kept in the gulag," he said. "Criminals who violated the law were kept in the gulag. And let the Western reader ask himself, should criminals be kept in spas or resort hotels?" Meanwhile, Stalin's image and name, systematically bleached out as the waning Soviet empire began to grapple with its bloody past, are creeping back into Russian life. His name was restored this fall to a Moscow metro station. His unmistakable mustached face beams from the wall of Soviet Meatpies, a kitschy diner downtown."

Excuses Wearing Thin for Obama, Media Pals

by merrie  10-21-2009    2
Yet just a few months ago, the Obama camp was singing a little different tune. It was under criticism for the $787 billion stimulus package it bulldozed through Congress on grounds that massive spending was needed to keep the unemployment rate from breaching 8 percent. When joblessness hit 9.5 percent in June, Vice President Joe Biden said, "We misread how bad the economy was." They inherited the worst economy since the Great Depression, or the economy turned out to be worse than they thought. Which is it? It can't be both -- unless your brain is completely addled by the Obama charisma. That's the backdrop to the story of Rush Limbaugh getting booted from a group bidding to buy the St. Louis Rams. He was smeared on CNN and MSNBC with false accusations of making two racist comments. He is an abrasive critic of Obama, so he must be racist.. . Recently an MSNBC personality accused the U.S. Chamber of Commerce of lobbying for policies that amount to being "treasonous . . .

Profile Of A Cyber Stalker
ljsdesign
by ljsdesign  10-17-2009
Cyberstalkers may research individuals to feed their obsessions and curiosity. Conversely, the acts of cyberstalkers may become more intense, such as repeatedly instant messaging their targets. More commonly they will post defamatory or derogatory statements about their stalking target on web pages, message boards and in guest books designed to get a reaction or response from their victim, thereby initiating contact. In some cases, they have been known to create fake blogs in the name of the victim containing defamatory or pornographic content. When prosecuted, many stalkers have unsuccessfully attempted to justify their behavior based on their use of public forums, as opposed to direct contact. Once they get a reaction from the victim, they will typically attempt to track or follow the victim's internet activity. Classic cyberstalking behavior includes the tracing of the victim's IP address in an attempt to verify their home or place of employment. A 2007 study, led

Caldwell issued subpoenas in August seeking documents related to ACORN International then-President Wade Rathke and his brother, Dale Rathke, who kept the group's books. Those subpoenas targeted possible violations of state employee tax law, obstruction of justice and violations of the Employee Retirement Security Act. The attorney general made inquiries in June into alleged embezzlement within ACORN that happened 10 years ago. The group last year dealt with an internal dispute and a lawsuit involving accusations that Dale Rathke made nearly $1 million in improper credit card charges in 1999 and 2000. Rathke's brother and a donor repaid the money. But Caldwell said last month that the statute of limitations prevented prosecutors from taking action on the alleged embezzlement, and that his investigation was not focused on that issue. The subpoena issued Monday puts a new emphasis on the embezzlement issue. It appears to be in reaction to documents gathered from ACORN's board as

"Current high-ranking members of ACORN have publicly acknowledged that embezzlement did in fact occur, but the exact amount of the embezzlement was unknown until it was recently acknowledged in a board of directors meeting on Oct. 17, 2008, by Bertha Lewis and Liz Wolf that an internal review had determined that the amount embezzled was $5 million, " the new subpoena says.

Eating potato chips and drinking vodka off of each other's ass, pissing on people, failing to show up for duty, going out on unauthorized missions to "hunt heads," and awarding themselves commendation for doing so. Ah....the glories of war. Hundreds of billions of dollars in U.S. contracts. Republicans refuse to investigate -- they first have to make sure Obama gets the blame. (It's his war. His Vietnam). I hope this makes into into the War Movies. Scenes of the wild parties interspersed with oil rigs churning away, poppy fields in flames, false elections, the embassy under attack, politicians talking about freedom and democracy, car bombs and bodies, hookers and drugs...brawls over a bag of ice. Britain/U.S. knew about extermination of Jews, Vatican claims

by foxyarse  8-19-2009
The editorial is the Vatican's latest effort to rehabilitate the reputation of Pope Pius, whose reluctance to denounce the Nazis publicly prompted accusations of anti-Semitism and earned him the title "Hitler's Pope". L'Osservatore dismissed such claims as a "radically false" characterisation of the pontiff's wartime record. It quoted Morgenthau as saying that as early as Aug 1942, the US government "knew that the Nazis were planning to exterminate all the Jews of Europe". In his diary, Morgenthau cited a telegram dated Aug 24, 1942, and passed on to the US State Department, that relayed a report of Hitler's plan to kill between 3.5 million and four million Jews, possibly using cyanide poison. L'Osservatore, which is regarded as the semi-official mouthpiece of the Holy See, reproduced a copy of the telegram. American officials had "dodged their grim responsibility, procrastinated when concrete rescue schemes were placed before them, and even suppressed information about

This opposition cannot be appeased. Some pundits claim that Mr. Obama has polarized the country by following too liberal an agenda. But the truth is that the attacks on the president have no relationship to anything he is actually doing or proposing. Ha. A little ironic, coming from a guy whose big complaint with Obama is that he isn’t socialist enough. What’s great is how well it works if you sub in “Bush,” ”1999,” ”Republican” and “enraged left” for “Obama,” ”2007,” ”Democrat” and “enraged right.” The difference is Bush actually did engage in extensive bipartisanship and didn’t attempt to ice out the opposition, right up to the end. Is it just me or is anyone else astonished that this Nobel laureate economist can’t do basic math? Not that big a surprise a guess, when you consider that the Nobel crowd gives out peace prizes to terrorists and end-time alarmists.

Gate's Arrest: Obama got it right the first time
Spiritualmonkey
by Spiritualmonkey  7-25-2009    5
This was never about race. It's about a cop abusing his authority to hassle a man in his own home who had done NOTHING ILLEGAL, NOT EVEN BY YELLING ABUSE AT THE OFFICER. The officer had to set Gates up by luring him into public for a "DC" arrest. The officer could have issued a ticket. I'll even stipulate I don't think he's a racist. But he trumped up a bullshit "DC" charge because a citizen was insufficiently respectful. That's abuse of police authority. I respect the fact a lot of people find Gates' actions and accusations reprehensible. But the bottom line is that @ no point in the exchange did he commit ANY CRIME AT ALL. His arrest was pure retribution by a cop with a wounded ego. And false arrest, by some standards. As part of the public served & protected by the police (and glad of it), I don't think abuse of authority is a thing to take lightly.

Mafia Blamed for $134Billion Fake Treasury Bonds
merrie
by merrie  6-19-2009
The Treasury has not issued physical Treasury bonds since the 1980s " they are handled electronically " though they still issue savings bonds in paper format. In Washington a US Secret Service official said the agency, which is working with the Italian authorities, believed the bonds were fake. “We don’t know where they are now,” Mr Akamatsu said. Italian officials, while pointing out that hauls of counterfeit money and Treasury bills were not unusual, were stunned by the amount involved. Investigators are looking into the origin and destination of the fakes. Italian prosecutors revealed last month that they had cracked a $1bn bond scam run by the Sicilian Mafia, with the alleged aid of corrupt officials in Venezuela’s central bank. Twenty people were arrested in four countries. The fake bonds were to have been used as collateral to open credit lines with banks, Reuters news agency reported. The Venezuelan central bank denied the accusations.

This latest arrest further underscores how tragic his his life has become. His story is too long to tell but the short version goes something like this: Son of a USC football team captain and national champion; he is raised in a virtual bubble bred for athletic achievement. Top high school QB in the country and 1987's U.S. HS scholar athlete. Recruited by Stanford, BYU, Miami, USC, etc. Can't miss prospect. Enters USC and as red-shirt freshman kills it, beats Michigan in Bo Schembechlers final game. Chapter two: trouble starts, leaves after soph season. Drafted 1st round by Oakland. Downhill from there. It's pure conjecture on O'Reilly's part. Meanwhile, his claim that Terkel "harmed a rape victim and her family" was flatly false.

It was the French who set off first to the unknown edge of the continent still known as Terra Australis. Flinders gave Baudin nine months start. How, then, did The Englishman come to map most of the South Australian coast first? The answer lies, in part, here amongst the gathering of exquisite artworks. A portrait of a Tasmanian Aboriginal mother and baby, for instance, was one of several delicate and positive portraits and scenes by Nicolas-Matin Petik. Baudin's orders demanded that his scientists and illustrators undertake a study of these people for the new science of anthropology just founded in Paris. It all took time - months and months of it. The French expedition was also asked to collect scientific specimens, and the other artist, Charles-Alexandre Lesueur turned his eye to the southern s

Texas Sect "Abused Teen" Caller a Fraud

The pattern of this woman in her fake calls of abuse suggests a conspiracy to make false accusations in order to justify inflammatory claims and proceedings.

Cato Institute Warns of Unjust Texas Sect Trial and Child Custody Seizure
blueridge
by blueridge  4-24-2008
The Texas polygamist sect trial is dangerous precedent. This must-hear 9 minute Cato podcast warns about government exceeding its authority and the dangerous precedent of its unchecked powers (including CPS) where there is clearly a lack of evidence for the inflammatory claims. 400 children, most under 5, are being separated from their parents without any substantiation of claims of abuse, and the initial call was a fabrication from an impostor. This is an excellent presentation of the facts with sober analysis of a violation of government power and a very dangerous legal precedent is being established where the laws of evidence are being trampled. (How would you react if CPS or the government took your children based upon false accusations and distorted information?) Note also, as he states, that as of 2004, marriage was lawful in Texas down to 14 years of age, with parental consent. Click link

Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman publicly accused Ned Lamont's campaign of deliberately crashing his Web site during the contested senate race in November 2006. As it turns out, the FBI ran a complete investigation and determined that it was the fault totally of the Lieberman campaign for using second-rate, bargain hosting services that caused the crash. What is particularly interesting is that these results were reported well before the actual vote, and yet Lieberman and his campaign refused to report the findings or apologize for the false accusations against Lamont up to this very day. The only reason the news came out now, is because a journalist got the information through the Freedom of Information Act. So here is Joe, showing what a lying scumbag he really is. First he makes a false claim against his opponent, and then when proven that the claim is false, he hides the information from the public. I don't think Obama is going to be good for the country. I think we need a seasoned President who can lead us out of this cluster fuck Bush has created and I don't believe Obama can do it. Why Edwards has not gotten any further is beyond me, but my choice would have been Al Gore. I see McCain making mincemeat of Obama in the debates, and lying through his teeth to accomplish his goals.
