Airline Fees Here to Stay
Rebecca Ruiz
by Rebecca Ruiz  9-17-2008
This article dispels any notion that the airlines might be persuaded to roll back fees now that the price of oil is dropping. Their logic? Air travel has been a stagnant business for years and unbundling -- or charging for what was once free -- is breathing new life into the airline business.

Joe Biden, Change We Can Drink To!
merrie
by merrie  9-3-2008    3
About Biden’s obnoxious and public displays of drunkenness… …If this is how he acts ON CAMERA when campaigning, imagine what might go on behind closed doors when he’s truly under pressure, like for instance, in the Oval Office during a crisis… And as Team Obama takes aim at Sarah Palin for being a national security lightweight, more and more people are finding that charge to be hypocritical. First off, Obama himself (ya know, the candidate at the TOP of the ticket) has ZERO foreign policy creds. And now it’s becoming increasingly apparent that his VP choice is a lightweight in more ways than one. Don’t you think it’s a little more important for the media to unearth whether Biden has an alcohol problem, than to worry about Sarah Palin’s 17 year old daughter and whether she is pregnant or not? http://theconservativepost.com/WordPress/?p=540

Buttock-clenching at the bus stop
CrazyRedHead
by CrazyRedHead  8-17-2008    4
Tory MP Philip Davies lashed out at the move. He asked: ‘Is this April 1st? The Government is virtually bankrupt and yet it is spending its last few pounds encouraging people to do Pilates at bus stops. ‘It is the nanny state gone completely mad and a shocking waste of taxpayers’ money.’

Lancashire bus problems.
notareargunner
by notareargunner  8-6-2008
If the pensioners and disabled had not received their bus passes, those very same busses, which are now full, would be damaging the roads of Lancashire EMPTY. Stop frightening the old and disabled. If you are getting ready to withdraw this concessionary package, at least have the courage to say so. Just because the average politician cannot do simple accounts, do not think that the average OAP or disabled person is so inflicted. We all know you rely on the inertia of the electorate, but many passengers on the busses are being forewarned of your duplicity. You used legalese to silence the revolt growing over he abandonment of the L1 service in Blackpool. You will get more than a whimpering reaction if you do not tell the truth about the realities of life with and without bus services. But from the expense claims submitted to Councils, it must be gleamed that no councillor uses a bus?

Peak Oil: The end of travel as we now know it
egsnyder
by egsnyder  8-6-2008
... And then, like in the medieval age, society will split into two groups: the mobile, and the stranded. If fuel prices stay high and if governments don't step in to help, fares will jump, and people in the bottom third of average household income will rarely be able to afford to fly, if at all, says Henry Harteveldt, vice-president and principal analyst of U.S.-based Forrester Research. Harteveldt says airlines in North America are only profitable in their current form if oil costs $100 U.S. or less a barrel. Right now, it's at $124. Harteveldt says the next generation of fuel-efficient airplanes, which companies like General Electric are working on, will not be ready for five or six years. That won't be fast enough.

Read these proposals carefully. In England no-one has yet answered the question, what happens when this three year moratorium on free travels ends? As laudable as this scheme appears, is this not just another sop at the gullible Scottish electorate?

Is Your World also Spinning and out of control?
klippety
by klippety  6-23-2008
Yes we can, and have in the past, taken control of our lives again. One block at a time, one neighborhood and town. Show up at your local city hall and participate. Better than TV anytime and it only takes 3 hours per week. Take your kids, friends and neighbors. Have a beer afterwards, I promise, you never had so much live entertainment.

Thanks AP And ABC News For Spinning Liberal Bias
merrie
by merrie  6-22-2008    17
My argument is bolstered further by the authors' ridiculous description of the weather as "out-of-control." They would have you believe that until eight years ago, when a certain Republican became President of the United States, the country had never experienced hurricanes, tornadoes, extremely high and low temperatures, and floods. The weather has been calm for the billions of years of the earth's existence and then suddenly, boom! The weather's out of control. AND we can make the weather not be out of control (i.e., if we elect a certain Democrat president .) Really, this article is an absolute embarrassment in every way. A DNC press release couldn't be more biased. There is positively nothing the least bit objective about this article. It's a string of hysterical unsubstantiated Democrat talking points.
