Inside the Meatrix
zalisan
by zalisan  8-17-2008
"Wow, you have changed my life with one short cartoon." - Susy. "I saw The Meatrix video recently and it really got me thinking in a completely new direction. I want to be a responsible consumer – not only for my well being but for the well being of all farm animals." Jennifer, Buenos Aires, "I worked in a factory pig farm for six months and seen the cruelty and the same sick pigs I seen in the movie. I have a few free range pigs and they are treated 100% better then those poor animals in the barns. I seen the antibiotics that were needed to keep them "healthy." I tell people that if you ever worked in one of these barns you would never buy pork in the store. Keep up the good work!" - Gloria. "Just wanted to say congrats. That was short, insightful, used an intelligent analogy and made me feel just guilty enough to want to do something without getting turned off from the message. Good show..." - Jason, Toronto, Canada.

Of course, we would never smoke, or get caught finger-licking the extra-crispy runoff from KFC, or tossing a foil wrap in the trash. Nearly every week brings news of another act of forced high-mindedness. Last week it was San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom with a plan to start inspecting people’s garbage, on the lookout to find someone who may have let a banana peel slip into the trash. Before that it was Seattle, which will soon charge people 20 cents a bag in the grocery checkout line. It’s not just us Left Coasters. New York has begun enforcing an ordinance that requires fast-food chains to post the caloric content of food on menus — in type as big as the menu item itself. How enticing: a fistful of calories on a bed of cholesterol, to go. Chicago, that city of deep-dish pizza and tailgate brats, has just been named the most meddlesome and restrictive in the country by the libertarian magazine Reason. Red states are more restrictive on sex and liquor; blue state prohibitionists te

What Do You Expect When You Give Your Kids Fast Food
cmstratton
by cmstratton  8-4-2008
This study should have been a big DUH to most parents out there. The majority of the "restaurants" in this study were fast food chains. What do you expect from fast food? Whether it says "kids meal" or not, if it's at a fast food place, it's very likely not going to be healthy and nutritious. In these places, "kids meals" are often just marketing ploys based on popular kids shows or toys. They're not nutritionally balanced to truly be healthy for a child. Raising kids is a huge challenge, and with parents often working in addition to raising kids, they often need to find fast options to make things work. But you have to realize if you're getting fast food, it's not going to be healthy for your child.

Almonds boost weight loss
Fast T friend
by Fast T friend  7-20-2008
According to Wien, “The weight-loss benefits of eating almonds came as something of a surprise, since the study was originally designed to evaluate the cholesterol-lowering effects of almonds. As it turned out, the dieters who ate almonds lost more weight than would be expected if they were taking prescription diet pills.”

First off, if you are so hearing impaired that you cannot hear what is coming out of the drive-through speaker, then you shouldn't be driving. Secondly, if your autistic kids are too much of a hassle to take into a restaurant, then they are too much of a hassle to drive around, right? Just wondering.
