Cubs to Mark Cuban?
Tom Van Riper
by Tom Van Riper  8-4-2008
Momentum in the bidding war for the Chicago Cubs appears to be heading in the direction of Mark Cuban, owner of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks. Cuban may be a bit of a renegade, unafraid to ruffle the feathers of league brass, but players love him and Dallas fans undoubtedly appreciate his efforts to revive a dormant franchise.

The Garden Arch
phokakb
by phokakb  6-21-2008
This painting was first begun with a stone wall. But one day I dreamt of an egret family at the end of a garden arch, and soon the vines replaced the wall. This became my quick impression of graceful birds, pure and affectionate. I thought that their free spirit and fantastic ballerina-like dances would be the light at the end of a tunnel. I decided to finish it in an impressionistic - dreamlike style rather than realistically detailed. The white feathers here represent purity and honesty. The affection represents love. The blossoms represent joy, and the arch represents the path of life – the bird dimension that is never complete without both the flight and the ground. The bottom of the arch is grounding, and the top is the flight. No bird, even the strongest, can stay in the sky forever. It needs both the sky and the ground. It is on the ground where the bird dreams are born, but it is in the sky where they are realized.

A Day Of Silence
debbyski
by debbyski  4-21-2008    11
"Sounds great, right? It’s so great that the Day of Silence ruffled the feathers of the wingers — the Alliance Defense Fund is putting on its The Day of Truth event, scheduled for the next day, April 27th. The Day of Truth was established to counter the promotion of the homosexual agenda and express an opposing viewpoint from a Christian perspective" OMG, it's so beautiful to be an American eh? First of all, I came up in a period that you had to be silent or else baby. I learned very quickly as a bisexual woman that I'd better make the Tila Tequila choice--the guy--every time. Now, I'm here to tell you that I've made my choices and God dammit I wouldn't change a thing, but I would have liked to at least had a f****** option. Try being silent one day of your life and seeing how some people are forced to "act" to please society and then MAYBE you will know what it's like to be discriminated against, disapproved of and not liked very well by society for being born (cont)

2300 Year Old Model Airplane
Rustee
by Rustee  4-10-2008
Did anyone actually build a large version of this thing? Well, no one could have come this close to the real shape of flight without working on a larger scale. This little wooden model could hardly exist unless someone had worked with large, light models, or even with man-carrying versions. Archaeologists have looked in vain for a prototype. A large model light enough to fly would be too delicate to stand the ravages of 2300 years. The original -- if it ever was -- has long since joined the desert dust. Whatever form this Egyptian airplane might have taken, it has long since returned to the world of dreams and imagination from which it first came.

(Texas actually split from Mexico several years earlier to form a breakaway republic, and was voluntarily annexed by the United States in 1846
