POPSTop 10 Oddball Tax Deductions Swimming pool. A taxpayer with emphysema put in a pool after his doctor told him to develop an exercise regime. He swam in it twice a day and improved his breathing capacity. Turns out he swam in the pool more than his family did. The Tax Court allowed him to deduct the cost of the pool (to the extent the cost exceeded its added value to the property) as a medical expense because its primary purpose was for medical care. Also, the cost of heating the pool, pool chemicals, and a proportionate part of insuring the pool area were treated as medical expenses.

POPSDeclawing - What You Need To Know Of all the "well-intentioned" things people do to their pets, this has always been the worst IMO. I have seen cats suffer tremendous lifelong chronic pain, after this barbaric surgery. Some even having to be put down after botched surgery. Another side effect is, that if a cat is "a scratcher", amputating their toes often turns them into biters instead. (Please don't pull all their teeth either!! *LOL*) Anyway...the whole problem here lies not in that cats have claws, it lies in people not providing the appropriate environment for the cat . A simple scratching post and a bit of education is all you need, to have a happy healthy non-destructive cat WITH all it's toes (and teeth). Cats live 3-dimensional lives, as apposed to dogs, who live in two. Being able to climb is essential for the well-being of a cat. Cats have toes and claws for a reason!! Please don't mutilate your pet, but get smart instead. Your cat will thank you for it, and so will I. :)

POPSA wild cat born in protective program This cat is probably the best known of the South American cats because of its pelt being the mainstay of the fur trade, and for the fact that it was frequently kept as a pet.

POPS The British Party-Animals (Woof-Woof) One of the biggest sellers is the rock superstar dog -- for anyone who fancies bedecking their immaculately bred golden retriever in a diamante Elvis-style cape, collar and flared trousers. Appalling puns are clearly compulsory in the canine costume business -- as well as Dogzilla, owners can dress their dogs as football "Howligans" to celebrate "Happy Howloween."

POPSAustralians cook up wild cat stew But it was a recipe for feline casserole that impressed some of the judges at an outback food competition in Alice Springs. Preparing this unusual stew seems simple enough. The meat should be diced and fried until it is brown. Then lemon grass is to be added along with salt and pepper and three cups of quandong, which is a sweet desert fruit. It is recommended that the dish be left to simmer for five hours before being garnished with bush plums and mistletoe berries. Marinated moggie was not to everyone's taste. One of the competition judges found the meat impossibly tough and had to politely excuse herself and spit it out in a backroom. Wild cats are considered good eating by some Aborigines, who roast the animals on an open fire. This outback cuisine does come with a health warning. Scientists have said that those eating wild cats could be exposed to harmful bacteria and toxins.

POPSCat therapy humor - many people quite rightly, recommend a dog, 'man's best friends' to help an autistic child build relationships, but don't be too fast to dismiss the felines of the planet.

POPSNew Species of Big Cats Long thought to be identical to the clouded leopards living on mainland South East Asia, genetic analysis has shown that the Bornean big cat is in fact a separate species. Scientists have counted at least 40 key differences in the DNA of the two felines - making the two species of clouded leopard almost as different as a lion is to a tiger. The research, which forms part of the WWF's Heart of Borneo conservation project, brings the number of new species to have emerged from the island's jungles in the last year to over 50. The clouded leopard, which at 35 inches from head to start of tail, is about the size of a small Labrador.

POPSMan's Best Bud Deserves Beer Kwispelbier currently retails at 7.35 Euros ($9.60) for four bottles plus postage on www.dogbeer.eu. This makes it an expensive tipple when compared to Holland's better-known beer brands which, as yet, have not unveiled plans to move into the pet market. Cats too will soon be able to get their whiskers into something stronger than the usual saucer of milk. Berendsen is planning to launch an as-yet-unnamed beer for felines in 2008. Meow!

POPSCats in VT Prison are Being Paroled I can see both sides to this. Programs where inmates care and train dogs are working. These women are emotionally attached to these cats. It'll be hard for them to give them up.
