Why Republican Base loves Sarah Palin
thinkingblue
by thinkingblue  Today 8:52 AM    1
This article. goes right to the heart of why the Republican base is so in love with Sarah Palin. She doesn't give them facts, she gives them the red-meat they lust for. I'm sure most, can remember people like Palin, in high school. The bubbly types, who dub anyone who doesn't fit their interpretation of what's "IN", a pariah. Yes, they have a blueprint of what is "IN", the right style, a snooty air, a superficial manner will get you, "IN". As bad as this exclusivity is, it could be tolerated if they also had a "live and let live" attitude. But unfortunately, anyone who crosses their path, who's not "IN" they will socially banish. They do this, by falsely labeling, and contriving suspicions of any non-"IN", creating an impression that something is shockingly wrong with anyone who, by their calculations, cannot be part of their "IN" crowd. But what's most perplexing is... It's one thing to behave like this in a state of childhood but carried into adulthood? Mind boggling! :-?

Great online dating tip for men
guystipdat1
by guystipdat1  10-1-2008
Probably the top online dating tips for guys that I can give you is to make sure you have a great looking photo that women can check out. If you do not have a photo, 9 times out of ten she is going to bolt from your profile and move on. Remember, you only have a few moments to capture her attention and so you better add a photo, because this is the first thing she is going to check out. Make sure it is a good photo too :)

Dating Tips For Guys That Most Guys Screw Up
datingtips4
by datingtips4  10-1-2008
Another hot online dating tip for guys includes filling out your profile with more than, "I like action movies!" Instead, tell her about the awesome movie you just saw and why you loved it. You need to tell stories and get more depth into your profile. Women are looking for interesting people, not some boring dude stuck at home watching TV while living in his mom's basement.

Jesus Horses and Sarah Palin
AtlLiberal
by AtlLiberal  9-20-2008    1
Sarah "Speaking in Tongues" Palin explains how she believes that dinosaurs and man lived together. This is precisely why the taboo of not discussing one's religion is wrong. This woman's viewpoint needs to be brought out and examined in the light of day. She holds ideas that have consequences in an increasingly technological world. By her own statements, she clearly doesn't have a clue what's going on.

A rose by any other name?
tommy2balmy

Physically, the younger Saddam Hussein looks nothing like the man after whom he was named. He has light-coloured hair and eyes, while the dictator's were dark. He is stocky while the president was tall and he is timid while the older version talked with a booming voice. However, the name brought certain advantages to the youngster. "In exams, the teachers gave me 10 extra marks because of my name," he admitted, adding that it also helped with girls. When Saddam was overthrown in April 2003, the younger man's mother begged him to changed his name but he refused. "It has served me well," he said. Later, working as a photographer with an American permit, the name won him respect from insurgents he was filming. "They were mostly former soldiers, security services agents or members of the Republican Guard, so being called Saddam Hussein made an impression," he said. On one occasion, he was hit in a shoulder by two bullets during a shootout in his shop between a member of the

The "Bear" Has Raised It's Head On Emerging Markets
merrie
by merrie  9-12-2008
The slowdown in the global economy may have hit the US early. It has begun to spread abroad as real estate prices and export rates in nations include China fall into decline. While America has been early into a recession it may be early in an exit. If the housing market here is at the foundation of trouble in global markets, the benefit of any improvement in the situation should have its first impression here. For the last several years, what was good for China, Russia, and other markets still in early stages was bad for the US. There are only so many opportunities to go around. The screw has turned and the US markets are the most likely beneficiary.

The Crocodile - A Story
Kelika
by Kelika  9-11-2008    1
"Even so, it was soon evident that the reasons these men had for courting my favor were foolish and ignoble: they seemed to think that if they were seen to be in my good graces, their enemies would fear them as much as they feared me. After some time passed, they realized I could not grant them what was not mine, nor anyone's, to confer. They did not blame themselves for their own error of judgment, or try to learn from it, as would any wise man or clever beast. Instead, among themselves, they decided they would try another approach altogether to achieve their means. They had other strategies, modern methods, and many resources at their disposal. They even began to say I was not anything much to fear. They began to trample through the marshes as they pleased. Can they truly be surprised at where they find themselves now? Have these men perhaps been brought to their senses at last by virtue of their present discomfort?"

A face you can trust
dakotayii
by dakotayii  8-20-2008    1
When deciding who to trust, the research suggests, people use shortcuts. For example, they look at faces. According to recent work by Nikolaas Oosterhof and Alexander Todorov of Princeton's psychology department, we form our first opinions of someone's trustworthiness through a quick physiognomic snapshot. By studying people's reactions to a range of artificially-generated faces, Oosterhof and Todorov were able to identify a set of features that seemed to engender trust. Working from those findings, they were able to create a continuum: faces with high inner eyebrows and pronounced cheekbones struck people as trustworthy, faces with low inner eyebrows and shallow cheekbones untrustworthy. In a paper published in June, they suggested that our unconscious bias is a byproduct of more adaptive instincts: the features that make a face strike us as trustworthy, if exaggerated, make a face look happy - with arching inner eyebrows and upturned mouths - and an exaggerated "untrustworthy"

Confidence game - The science of Trustworthiness
Silkweaver
by Silkweaver  8-18-2008    2
Researchers have discovered that surprisingly small factors - where we meet someone, whether their posture mimics ours, even the slope of their eyebrows or the thickness of their chin - can matter as much or more than what they say about themselves. We size up someone's trustworthiness within milliseconds of meeting them, and while we can revise our first impression, there are powerful psychological tendencies that often prevent us from doing so - tendencies that apply even more strongly if we've grown close.

Could McCain be a victim of McCain Feingold?
Eaglewings
by Eaglewings  6-27-2008    1
First it was Obama refusing "public funds" which allows him to raise as much money from as many people as he wants without limitations, and now the Supes have ruled that a multi-billionaire can in effect purchase a political office. It would appear from this 'casual observer' McCain Feingold was an attempt to 'fix' elections by controlling which candidate actually has enough money to let their voice be heard while drowning out anyone else. This is the adverse to what the intent of the law was meant to do, but in all reality I believe it is exactly what the laws sponsors actually intended. McCain therefore may fall victim to his own sponsored bill.

The Garden Arch
phokakb
by phokakb  6-21-2008
This painting was first begun with a stone wall. But one day I dreamt of an egret family at the end of a garden arch, and soon the vines replaced the wall. This became my quick impression of graceful birds, pure and affectionate. I thought that their free spirit and fantastic ballerina-like dances would be the light at the end of a tunnel. I decided to finish it in an impressionistic - dreamlike style rather than realistically detailed. The white feathers here represent purity and honesty. The affection represents love. The blossoms represent joy, and the arch represents the path of life – the bird dimension that is never complete without both the flight and the ground. The bottom of the arch is grounding, and the top is the flight. No bird, even the strongest, can stay in the sky forever. It needs both the sky and the ground. It is on the ground where the bird dreams are born, but it is in the sky where they are realized.

Cocky Ignorance Thomas Sowell
merrie
by merrie  6-11-2008    3
What has not been widely publicized is that this higher suicide rate is still not as high as the suicide rate among demographically comparable civilians. But the media have managed to create the impression that it is military service overseas which is the cause of suicides among American troops, when civilians of the same ages and other demographic characteristics are committing suicide at an even higher rate at home. Moreover, this is not the first time that military service overseas has been portrayed in the media as the cause of problems that are worse in the civilian population at home. The New York Times led the way in making homicides committed by returning military veterans a front-page story, blaming this on “combat trauma and the stress of deployment.” Yet the New York Post showed that the homicide rate among returning veterans is a fraction of the homicide rate among demographically comparable civilians.
