Wild Russian Pet. Warning: Predation Shots.

Never heard of a Russian fishing cat. Kind of odd looking. I imagine it would be happier living a natural life in the wild. By the looks of it, so would the other cat in the family.

Talking Trash: Clean Up Our Oceans
onlinedesign
by onlinedesign  9-2-2009
When I was a little girl, I so admired Jacques Cousteau. He embodied everything I love about exploring the earth, investigating the oceans, and saving sea creatures great and small. Now, his great legacy is continued through the work of his son, Jean-Michel, who has partnered with Project Kaisei to clean up our oceans and raise awareness about the severe increase in plastic pollution. What's really in our oceans? TRASH. Well, we already knew that. What you might not know it that even in this enlightened day and age of awareness...the global oceanic garbage disposal problem is growing leaps and bounds before our eyes. The pictures say it all. "We traveled thousands of miles on both vessels and we tested surface samples across that whole distance. Every single sample we came up with plastic, every single one."

Pictures inside the mouths of sharks at feeding time
clip-on-tie
by clip-on-tie  7-9-2009    5
You don't want to be here. 'We tie fish scraps onto fishing lines (no hooks) and bait lemon sharks in as close as possible. 'When one opens its mouth to "snap" at the fish, I take the shot. These snaps literally last a fraction of a second, so timing is critical. 'Recently, the technique has been changed. These days, all surface shots of lemon sharks are done via "polecam", with cameras mounted at the end of long poles. 'This prevents any possible accident.' In October, Eric be travelling to Japan on an expedition to photograph sperm whales (assuming he is still alive).

Fishing Cat Would Rather be Fishing in Sri Lanka
clip-on-tie
by clip-on-tie  7-5-2009    2
According to wikipidiot: "The Fishing Cat (Prionailurus viverrinus) is a medium-sized cat whose disjunct global range extends from eastern Pakistan through portions of India, Nepal and Sri Lanka, throughout Bangladesh and Mainland Southeast Asia to Sumatra and Java. Its fur has an olive-grey color with dark spots arranged stripe-like running along the length of the body. The face has a distinctly flat-nosed appearance. The size varies between locations. While Indian specimens grow to 80 cm (32 in) plus 30 cm (12 in) tail, Indonesian fishing cats only reach 65 cm (26 in) plus 25 cm (10 in) tail. Indian individuals weigh up to 11.7 kg (26 lbs), while in Indonesia adult fishing cats weigh in at up to approximately 6 kg (13 lbs). They are stocky of build with medium short legs, and a short muscular tail of one half to one third of the length of the rest of the animal. Like its closest relative, the Leopard Cat, the Fishing Cat lives along rivers, brooks and mangrove swamps.

Local Diver's Two-Hour Struggle With 12 Foot Tiger Shark
merrie
by merrie  3-12-2009    2
Clasen, who lives in New Orleans, said the dramatic pictures were taken as he dove with a snorkel and spear gun near an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, just south of the mouth of the Mississippi River. They appeared in the March 2009 issue of Outside magazine, which chronicled the encounter as part of a feature story on spear fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. Clasen and his fishing buddies Cameron Kirkconnell of Florida and Brian Head of Mississippi were in search of yellowfin tuna. Ryan McInnis, a videographer from North Carolina, and D.J. Struntz, a photographer from North Carolina, dove alongside them, fishing and capturing footage for a video on the sport. Toward the end of the expedition, Struntz shot a fish and began hauling it up to the surface, Clasen tried to clear a way for him when he suddenly heard a strange, muffled yell, he said. Puzzled, Clasen cast a glance toward the direction of the yell. He saw a shark swimming near McInnis, Clasen said.

Lizard crawls out of mouth of a caught fish
michellezm
by michellezm  5-4-2008    3
"I said, 'Hey, John, the skink's alive.' John said, 'Wow man, it just blinked at me, and look, it's breathing.'" The lizard began to struggle and with a little help from the fisherman it crawled from its captor's jaws. There were some teeth marks down its back and the tail was partially digested, but when they put it back on the river bank it happily scurried off. "We witnessed the ultimate will to survive," Simson said. "The skink had probably slowed down its heart rate in order to stay alive for that length of time underwater without air." There are more amazing photographs of Simon's fishing adventures on his Web site at www.kettafly.com. I couldn't clip the photos from the Courier Mail. Worth viewing.

Using your electronics, fishing deep, and drop shotting ...
ksbigbass
by ksbigbass  12-16-2007
I've got some other pictures but they'll require some thinking on my part so I don't say anything stupid! lol When I got out today I overheard some other boaters talking about how tough it's been. From their age, the way they talked, and their boat, they were probably a lot better fishermen than I am. Maybe they were going after those five big bites? Anyway, I caught 20 fish just piddling around with the same bait all day and not know what I was doing. I constantly see prople beating the banks just like they would in spring but most of the fish are just deeper. Again, spend some time learning your electronics. Nobody would think of learning to play golf without going to the driving range. Your time with your electonics might cut down on the time you have to fish but the time you fish will more likely be quality time. Fishing deep? If a length and a half of your boat is deep then I guess it's deep! lol This drop shotting is amazing. I wish MikeB had encouraged me to try it s

Some pictures
ksbigbass
by ksbigbass  11-17-2007
The top two pictures on the left show that indeed "simples minds are easily fascinated"! lol I finally caught one in the left picture. I took the middle top picture because a friend came by and I told him I would show him what I was stuck fishing for. You can see some interference lines from his depth finder. I finally found some shad in the upper right picture but when they are up off the bootm like that I have trouble catching anything. You can see how those shad are reacting to the bass just below them. Good luck trying to catch those fish! lol The bottom pictures where taken off that school of shad in the lower post. I didn't catch one in the left picture. I really didn't think I'd catch one on the middle picture but finally did. The lower right picture shows how many times I had to jig my spoon to get a bite. Tuesday they would hit it right away. Notice the depth reading. The fish I caught was followed by so many others that my depth finder thought they were the bottom! l

Bass relating to shad
ksbigbass
by ksbigbass  11-17-2007    1
I went back to the creek that had been so loaded Thursday and there wasn't a thing in it. It took at least 30 minutes of looking to find another one but it was well worth it. Most of the bass you find won't be feeding because they don't eat all the time. The pictures above shows that they do stay close to their next meal and the poor shad know it! lol Those fish aren't aggressively feeding if at all, but if you drop a spoon on them you'll get a reaction strike and set off a feeding frenzy just about every time. In that upper right picture they've got the shad banked up 30 feet deep! Put a piece of paper over one of those top pictures and slowly drag it to the right like you were fishing. Any time you see a school of shad begin to show a drop off like that - get ready to drop that spoon because something caused it!

Big time shad migration!
ksbigbass
by ksbigbass  11-17-2007    2
This morning I headed to the back half of the creek I've been fishing and found only crappie again like I had on Sunday. I decide to go try some other spots to see if I could find some bass. As I headed out towards the mouth of the creek I ran over this. It was like a parade of shad and bass moving back into the creek. I don't know what caused it. We had our first good cold front move in last night and this morning the wind was blowing strong out of the north with bluebird skies. I also couldn't buy a bite. It's frustrating to know you are all over fish and can't get them to bite. The wind finally moved me off the main parade route and onto a big school of good white bass. I'll post some sonar pictures later.
