POPSFinancial Crisis Part II: U.S. Automakers Next "Some 18% of sales volume" from bad credit buyers. Watch the banks and credit companies like Capital One here flee the industry to strengthen their own positions. High gas prices have hurt car sales no doubt.

POPSGM falls to 1950 levels; European sales stung I really am debating buying this. If they would just have a whole line of hybrids and electrics ready to go in a year or two I would gobble up this stock. But right now they seem to be holding on to the illusion of gas/diesel vehicles. Not as bad as ford, but certainly they are not going the route of toyota.

POPSVirtual Books I think this is something that we will see much more of in the future, especially with new and cheaper Virtual reader devices coming out on the market every month.

POPSAmazing Machines Ford did a great job on the Escape Hybrid - you can hardly tell the batteries are even in there, the spare is still underneath, and you still have a decent floor in the back too.

POPSHuman Rights Watch report on Venezuela: An echo of US propaganda This concerns me. HRW obviously has a strong reputation but this article questions its report on Venezuela. This article is quite convincing in its dealings with the HRW report. I sympathise with Latin American countries in the USA's backyard having once done a stint as a brigadista in Nicaragua in 1985

POPSEnvironmental cars Small U.S. manufacturers like Phoenix Motorcars’ and California’s ZAP (Zero Air Pollution) are giving green cars their best shot, but taking on the big U.S. three may still make for a rough ride. While Chevrolet’s 2008 Malibu Hybrid gets only slightly better gas mileage than the gas powered version, the electric Volt is scheduled for limited production by the end of 2010. According to Chevrolet’s web site, “We've placed a huge priority on getting the Volt to production as soon as possible.” Saturn hopes to stay in the race with their VUE compact SUV and Aura green line, and taking a step in the right direction, Ford plans to retool truck plants to hopefully build green cars. DaimlerChrysler, like Canadian manufacturers ZENN Motor Co. and Dynasty ElectricCar Corp., released several low-speed, neighborhood class vehicles in 2008. Very limited mileage ranges and top speeds less than 30 mph may keep these green cars out of the race and well hidden behind the grandstands.

POPSLives of the Rich & Famous: McCains own 13 cars But, hey, with all those houses, and errands to run... There was a time when I had no automobile at all ... (Barack and Michelle have one between them, BTW.) Perhaps a good economic stimulus plan would be a giveaway of the McCains' extra houses and cars. Hey, we live in America - they could say - we've got a right to be rabid materialists.

POPS"Bee" Haydu - WWII Pilot "The WASP program was an outgrowth of the Women's Flying Training Detachment and Women's Auxiliary Ferrying Squadron, and was intended to free up male pilots for combat. A total of 25,000 women applied, and 1,074 earned their wings. The WASP fliers originally were civil service-paid and were disbanded on Dec. 20, 1944. In 1977, Congress declared the WASPs veterans of World War II."
