POPSThe government double whammy As only government can do. The thing that troubles me the most is the insistence that many of these problems were caused by inner city mortgages and low-income earners. I know this is mostly hate-filled, leftist, BS propaganda meant only to further division in this country, but I have heard the same in the mainstream media. We should not forget that there are millions of people who who bought more house than they could afford and most are upper income folks. Don't fall into the cess-pool with the likes of these hate-filled morons.

POPSForget black holes, could the LHC trigger a “Bose supernova”? Nobody is exactly sure how these explosions proceed which is a tad worrying for the following reason: some clever clogs has pointed out that superfluid helium is a BEC and that the LHC is swimming in 700,000 litres of the stuff. Not only that but the entire thing is bathed in some of the most powerful magnetic fields on the planet. If not for anything else, the LHC has become a modern doom spelling myth. The universe is about to punish us for prying on its privacy... These modern myths are truly fascinating. After Bose Nova? Bose Supernova! :-)

POPSToday, We Are All Marxists! Yes, today, everyone has become a Marxist. Groucho Marxist, that is. 2 October 2008, is the 118th anniversary of his birth. A master of wit, who, unlike Don Rickles, made one feel complimented to have been insulted by him. All hail, Marx and Lennon (see http://us.st12.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/laughstore_2013_1230600), and don't neglect to check out the rest of the quotes at the clipsource.

POPSWhy the Wall St bailout is a bad idea Oh, and let's not forget that we import a lot of stuff. If the dollar collapses in the FOREX, all that stuff will be a lot more expensive. And since oil is denominated in dollars worldwide, well, a collapse in the dollar means that the price of oil will be going nowhere but up.

POPS Thoughts on the Bailout Defeat "A number of Republican House members and staff, along with others who are plugged in, are telling me that Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats will come back with a new bill that includes all the left-wing stuff that was scrubbed from the bill that was defeated today in the House. As this scenario goes, the House Democrats need 218 votes, and they have to pick up a number of black and Hispanic House members who jumped ship because the Wall Street provisions, in their view, were too benign. So things like the bankruptcy judges setting mortgage terms and rates, the ACORN slush-fund spending, the union proxy for corporate boards, stricter limits on executive compensation, and much larger equity ownership of selling banks through warrants will all find itself back in the new bill. Of course, this scenario will lose more Republican votes. But insiders tell me President Bush will take Secretary Paulson’s advice and sign that kind of legislation."

POPSJon Stewart and Stephen Colbert: Mock the Vote So what do you think is the issue that people will end up voting on? STEWART: Whatever happens that week. It all depends on when that Michelle Obama ''I hate whitey'' tape comes out. If it comes out now, it could dissipate by the election. But if it comes out a couple days before, that could be dangerous. COLBERT: Jon? I have it.
