POPSArtist exposes his soul...and his mother's stuff This artist comes at his work from a very interesting place. I love readymades and in general, works that contain commercial products like the toothpaste tubes in the photo. The exhibit on the surface seems curious and somewhat whimsical like a Duchamp but from what the review says its far more intense. I'm looking forward to seeing it but at the same time I wonder if I will feel uncomfortable peering so deeply into his (and his mother's) life, soul, pain, etc...even though they've invited me to do so.

POPSNew website shows low-income Californians how to reduce medical costs
More: Since the country’s first Hospital Fair Pricing Act took effect more than two years ago—Assembly Bill 774––California hospitals are required to offer fee discounts and are also capped on what they charge patients who typically face their highest fees: the uninsured.… many hospitals have complied with California law—“Some are doing it well, some are not”—but two nagging problems continue. First, rural hospitals, or those not affiliated with large chains, frequently don’t mention the mandated discounts. Second, obtaining the discounts can be difficult. The Web site was created “not to bash hospitals,” but to offer patients their options under the law.… For patients, medical bills are causing rising debt loads and even medical bankruptcy. Consumers who buy catastrophic health-insurance plans and limited “junk” insurance often find that their plans have strict limitations, which often saddle them with enormous debt….

POPSPolls And Post-Mortems Howard Fineman tells us what went wrong, other than the predictable perfidy of Evil Republicans and their big business paymasters: Murky campaign promises ...The president is for “reform,” which says… nothing. Orszag’s fantasy Every president wants to reconcile frugality and generosity, and there is always an ambitious and clever aide willing to tell him it can be done. In Obama’s White House it is Budget Director Peter Orszag, who confidently told Obama that carefully administered universal health coverage would save the government money in the long run. ... Focusing on the have-nots ...the White House all along should have been focusing on the fears of the 85 percent who have insurance, not on the 15 percent who do not. Jonah Goldberg has his view - "if you actually wanted Obama-care to pass, casting a majority of Americans as being stooges of racist goons may not be the best way to go." He left out greedy and stupid.

POPSReal-time Web Based Power Charting Great idea for someone who needs to know where their electrical energy usage is going. It might be considered penny-pinching by some, but hey, I’m not knocking it. If there is a leak in my pocketbook I want to seal it up. I’m just not sure how much money can be saved by identifying my electrical vampires. If someone can convert this DIY into a marketable, easy-to-use device for homeowners, I’ll bet money can be made from it.

POPSHypocrisy from the Party of Pork Their pledge sounds a bit dis-ingenuous Why do we have to raise our voices before these clowns perform in the ethical manner we expect from them? They loose their shirts in an election before they say “Gee, maybe we should have done a better job” or “Wow, I guess the American people were paying attention”.
