POPSAn imaginative use for your garage: car storage Although this article was written four years ago in 2004, it is perhaps even more valid today in 2008. The article mentions giving things away on Freecycle. Since 2004, the freecycling idea has caught on... big time. There are many other networks now: fullcircles.org; reuseitnetwork.org. Over 5 million people in 88 countries are using these networks to declutter, and simplify their living spaces and their lives.

POPSClustrMaps: Great tool for visualizing website visitors I just stumbled on this tool a few days ago. I've set it up to track visitors to fullcircles.org. Although we set up fullcircles.org primarily to target and serve Canada, we can visually see that ,in just a couple of days, we've had visitors from the US and Europe. /e

POPSRetire early: Live beneath your means DLM offers 10 suggestions. Here's an 11th and a 12th. 11. Buy Used: Lots of stuff on Craigslist and other resale venues is actually new. Bought and never used! 12. Shop Freecycle / Fullcircles / ReUseIt / or ANY of the gifting / reuse networks springing up all around the world! . Paying nothing means you don't have buy with after tax $$. And a lot of the stuff given away is also unused - new stuff; bought and never used! Think of all the money you can save. Makes it possible to either work less; or retire early. /e

POPSGrowing Urban Potato "Trees" I just this morning learned that 2008 is the United Nations 'YEAR OF THE POTATO'. The first thing I thought of was this potato tree idea that I used many, many years ago. Growing potatoes locally is good; reusing old tires is good.... Sounds like a win-win in 2008.

POPSGmail: Simulating folders with Gmail I've been using this approach to manage the VERY high volume of email from the FullCircles, Ottawa group. Properly formatted messages with OFFER, WANTED, TAKEN, RECEIVED never even appear in the in-box. They are labeled and filtered into the archive automatically. We have over 120,000 messages archives since Aug/04... taking up about 20% of the available space that Gmail archives. This is a GREAT tool for any Freecycle / Full Circles / ReUseIt group managers.

Read it for some lessons in sustainability / good stewardship! Every little bit helps. Little bits add up! They really do. What's in YOUR idle assets inventory? /egs
