Gov. Sarah Palin unleashed a new attack on Sen. Barack Obama, accusing him of "palling around with terrorists" for his association with former 1960s radical William Ayers. The Obama campaign immediately denounced the attack as "shameless" and "offensive." "Americans need to know this." Palin cited a front-page article in today’s New York Times that explored the ties between Obama and Ayers. Obama had served on a charity board with Ayers in Chicago during the mid-90s, and Ayers was present at an organizing meeting in 1995 to kick off Obama's first election campaign for the Illinois State Senate. "There has been a lot of interest in what I read, and what I read lately well, was reading my copy of today’s New York Times and I was really interested to read about Barack's friends from Chicago," Palin said. "OK, now I get to bring this up not to pick a fight, but it was there in the New York Times, so we're gonna talk about it.

POPSNRA ramps up ad campaign against Obama "The pro-gun group is claiming that Obama would be the most anti-gun president in American history. But in the view of many Californians, his stand might not be such a bad thing. The state has led efforts to restrict military-style semiautomatic weapons, large magazines and the sale of cheap handguns most often used in robberies."

POPSVets for Obama When Senator McCain fails to show on the Senate floor for the vote to pass the new GI Bill and attends a fundraiser instead, Veterans should begin to see the true picture of the man – laurels and all. When questioned on his non-support and absence from this historic vote, John McCain did not explain his opposition, he simply lashed out that he would not be lectured by a man that never served. I don’t know any Veteran that would so readily wield their military service as a weapon to simultaneously deflect and then attack a legitimate question. Perhaps Senator McCain would have accepted lectures from the other 92 Senators who did show up to support the bill, or perhaps he would have accepted lectures from the Veterans of Foreign Wars who demanded the passage before McCain’s attempt to back into supporting the bill.

POPSPaulson and Obama "Paulson and his team have not acted in good faith for this President or the administration for which they serve," says a House Republican leader who was not present at the White House meeting, but who instead is part of the team hammering out the House GOP alternative. "We keep hearing about how Secretary Paulson is working with Democrats on this or that, yet he never seems to consider working with the party that essentially hired him. Perhaps he's auditioning for a Democratic administration job. Our proposal didn't just spring forth fully formed; we've been working on this for several days, and Treasury staff has known about it." POPSObama’s Shifting Positions on Iraq: A Rezko Connection? Obama was at a party on April 3 — two days before the video– with Nadhmi Auchi, a London-based Iraqi billionaire who attended a Tony Rezko party in Chicago. The Chicago Tribune blog covered Obama’s recollection of the party in depth. Late last week, Sen. Barack Obama said he didn’t recall meeting a controversial Iraqi-born billionaire at a party held at the home of his former friend and fundraiser, Antoin “Tony” Rezko, on April 3, 2004, because it was in the midst of his campaign for the U.S. Senate seat from Illinois. But a check on the senator’s calendar showed he had no campaign activities on the day of the Auchi party. The Chicago Sun-Times reported that despite Obama’s inability to recall meeting Mr. Auchi, two sources said the senator was present. http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2008/04/obamas_rezkoauchi_recollection.html http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/rezko/894559,CST-NWS-rezko15.article

POPSGOP Plays the Gender Card Before you say this is just Laura Bush speaking for Laura Bush, consider this: I am appalled by the Obama campaign's attempts to belittle Governor Sarah Palin's experience. The facts are that Sarah Palin has made more executive decisions as a Mayor and Governor than Barack Obama has made in his life. Because of Hillary Clinton's historic run for the Presidency and the treatment she received, American women are more highly tuned than ever to recognize and decry sexism in all its forms. They will not tolerate sexist treatment of Governor Palin. - HP's former CEO Carly Fiorina and RNC fundraiser, quoted in RNC press release The McCain camp, who wanted everyone to freak out when Obama supposedly "played the race card," are now claiming that any criticism of Sarah Palin is sexist. The Republican Party; never one to shy away from blatant hypocrisy.

POPSNigeria police seize funds allegedly raised for Obama The amount raised sparked widespread public outrage in Africa's top oil producer, where the majority of the people live on less than $2 a day, prompting the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to launch an investigation. The commission said it would work out how to share the money among those who paid to participate in the event. Okereke-Onyiuke said in a full-page statement in Nigeria's Guardian newspaper on Aug. 21 that the dinner had never been intended to raise funds for Obama, but to sensitize and mobilize Africans worldwide.

According to Ms. Ochieng, the school principal says that Hopefully he'll nip this one in the bud before the rightists - ahem, FOX News Channel - use it to bash him with here. Especially since 10% of the school's students reportedly are related to him. What the Obama School needs: • Water • Sanitation • Electricity • Remodeling • Security • Maintenance to bring water to the school by sinking a borehole and building a water tank, erect a perimeter fence, complete the science laboratory and add much needed new classrooms, additional latrines, and a school dining hall http://www.luoamerican.com/baldilocks/2008/07/save-obama-scho.html Now the website is being built at obamaschool.org; I will let everyone know when it goes up.

POPSObama Ad Links McCain, Abramoff Pretty straight forward. It'll be hard for McCain to weasel out of this one -- although there won't be any shortage of media figures willing to help him along. I'd like to see this followed up with McCain's ties to lobbyists and the way he swaps positions for campaign cash. Someone's got to cut that "straight talkin' maverick" BS out from under him.

POPSSchool Capital Campaigns What does a school do when its budget far exceeds its immediately available resources? Instead of traditional or low output fundraisers, a school does well to hire a professional fundraiser to help them bring in the major funding they need.

POPSJohn McCain is in New Jersey Today. Half of NJ's National Guard Isn't
When John McCain is in New Jersey today, we urge him to address the thousands of families that have been affected by this deployment and describe the relief he would provide them as President. In addition, VFA had been repeatedly contacted by NJ Guard members and other servicemembers from New Jersey who want to know Senator McCain's position on compensating members of our armed forces who have been stop-lossed. Recently, Senator Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey introduced a bill calling for compensation to provided to those who affected by this regrettable policy. VFA calls on Senator McCain to clearly state if he supports Senator Lautenberg's "Stop Loss Compensation Act." Our servicemembers deserve answers, especially after considerable questions were raised regarding Senator McCain's support for our troops' well being when he opposed the successful effort to expand the GI Bill, as called for in a bill that Senator Lautenberg also co-sponsored.

POPS Arrogance Watch Elevating the issue of Obama's arrogance two or three notches higher, Dana Milbank writes in Wednesday's Washington Post: Fresh from his presidential-style world tour, during which foreign Obama settled down to some presidential-style business in Washington Then, he went up to Capitol Hill to be adored by House Democrats in a presidential-style pep rally. Along the way, he traveled in a bubble more insulating than the actual president's. Traffic was shut down for him as he zoomed about town in a long, presidential-style motorcade, while the public and most of the press were kept in the dark about his activities, which included a fundraiser at the Mayflower where donors paid $10,000 or more to have photos taken with him.

POPSTop McCain Fundraiser Tied to Abramoff "Mr. Benitez received a fee of $125,000 per month from the taxpayers of Guam, to arrange meetings that the taxpayers of the United States and Guam were already paying his wife to undertake," we're told. The piece goes on: The four-person lobbying team Benitez put together for the Guam account also included two men, David DiStefano and Roy Coffee, who were closely involved at the same time with the now-disgraced Rep. Bob Ney. Ney pleaded guilty in 2006 to corruption charges related to his dealings both with Jack Abramoff and with a shadowy European firm called FN Aviation. DiStefano, a former Ney chief of staff, and Coffee, who had been part of George W. Bush's staff when he was governor of Texas, both worked for FN Aviation in 2003 and also donated generously to Ney's campaign. NYT's " The Caucus " has more...
