POPSSudan’s President Pardons British Teacher Sudan’s President Pardons British Teacher NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec. 3 — The British schoolteacher jailed in Sudan for allowing her 7-year-old pupils to name a class teddy bear Muhammad was pardoned Monday by the Sudanese president and left for England later in the evening. President Omar al-Bashir made the decision after meeting with two Muslim members of the House of Lords, the upper house of the British Parliament. Under Sudanese law, Ms. Gibbons could have received 40 lashes and been jailed for six months. On Friday, hundreds of Sudanese in Khartoum, the capital, protested what they considered a lenient punishment and called for her to be put to death. MY OPINION>>>Thou shalt not kill. But to kill for naming a teddy bear?

POPS CAIR Once Again Silent On Gillian Gibbons Imprisonment
In both cases, CAIR rose up to defend the offenders in question and engaged in their now standard grievance theater protest politics. When it comes to the November 1999 incident, any mention of CAIR’s involvement or defense of the Saudi students has been scrubbed from the organization’s website. It’s no wonder, as the 9/11 Commission Report (page 521, footnote 60) explains that the FBI now considers the incident as a “dry run” for the 9/11 hijackings There is a connection between these two incidents, as the leader of the six “Flying Imams” this past November is none other than Omar Shahin, the former imam of the Islamic Center of Tucson, where the two Saudi students from the November 1999 incident attended. Counterterrorism expert Rita Katz told the Washington Post in September 2002 that the mosque served as “basically the first cell of Al-Qaeda in the United States; that is where it all started” “Al Qaeda among Us”, provides greater detail about the connections

POPS Thousands Protest For More Severe Punishment The case put Sudan's government in a tough position -- facing the anger of Britain on one side and potential trouble from powerful Islamic hard-liners on the other. Many saw the 15-day sentence as an attempt to appease both sides, the AP reported. The incident has placed further strain on relations between Sudan, which has been plagued by war, famine and disease in recent years, and Western nations. International experts estimate that 200,000 people have died and 2.5 million have been driven from their homes in ethnic and political conflict in western Sudan's Darfur region since a revolt by mostly non-Arab rebels in 2003.

POPS'Teddy' teacher jailed in Sudan This is beyond sad. I guess everyone should be grateful that she didn't get those 40 lashes. Perhaps this is the expression of Allah's mercy. I hope she leaves immediately when her 11 days are up, but the children will be left behind to suffer from this kind of oppression.

POPS'Muhammad' teddy teacher arrested 'Muhammad' teddy teacher arrested British schoolteacher has been arrested in Sudan accused of insulting Islam's Prophet, after she allowed her pupils to name a teddy bear Muhammad. Colleagues of Gillian Gibbons, 54, from Liverpool, said she made an "innocent mistake" by letting the six and seven-year-olds choose the name. The BBC has learned the charge could lead to six months in jail, 40 lashes or a fine. Fellow teachers at Khartoum's Unity High School told Reuters news agency they feared for Ms Gibbons' safety after receiving reports that men had started gathering outside the police station where she was being held. Mr Boulos said Ms Gibbons was arrested on Sunday at her home inside the school premises after a number of parents complained to Sudan's Ministry of Education.
