POPSThe Opinuary Column: Freedom isn't Free (or Alive)
It fought its addiction to Crystal Meth (Cheaper Than Coke But Still Not Free) and Tobacco (the first carton for soldiers was Free, but after that, not so much) with grit and determination, which it had in buckets (buckets that were Free but had to be returned when it was done with them). In the weeks before its death, the Opinion was often observed meditating on a litany of uncomfortable realizations: it had discovered that its apartment wasn't Free, its bar tab wasn't Free, its groceries weren't Free and, having failed to appear in court on misdemeanor charges, it suffered the additonal ignominy of facing the fact that indeed, not even its DUI was Free ($250.00 just to post bail!). Its only words to the judge were these: "In the bastardized yet immortal phrasings of Kris Kristofferson: Freedom's just another word for something that isn't free..." Family of the deceased Opinion are asking that, in lieu of flowers (which aren't free) that each and every one of us do our part to d

POPSRemnants of Childhood - do you have any? "...there's a brand-spankin' new Walmart that opened near me with mint-condition shopping carts and a fresh, smooth parking lot with a ever-so-slight down hill slope to the cars from the store. A few jogging steps is all I need to roll myself and my groceries from the front doors all the way to the far end of the lot."

POPSGrocery Bike Redo I was talking about bikes that you can use to gather up grocery supplies when you go shopping. And then I saw this new bike concept ... designed to let you carry stuff on the front end. It's a pretty cool idea. It has what looks like a skate board deck mounted on the front frame of the bike. Apparently wide enough to hold a bag of groceries.

POPSUPDATE: Whole Foods "Buycott" One of Several Nationwide His column prompted a backlash among unions and liberal shoppers. The United Food and Commercial Workers Union and CtW Investment Group, an arm of several unions including the Service Employees International Union, are part of a boycott effort and say Mackey should be ousted as CEO. They also are pushing for the Bravo cable network, owned by NBC Universal-General Electric, to drop Whole Foods as the sponsor of its popular “Top Chef” show. “This is a very highly emotional issue, and we have heard both sides,” said Kate Klotz, regional spokeswoman for Whole Foods. “We appreciate the support of anyone who walks into the stores.” The grocery store chain instructed the “buycott” organizers to stick to shopping and refrain from passing out fliers, she said. “Mackey is being unfairly targeted for attack by unions and far left radical organizations because he offered a free-market solution to the health-care problems in America,” he said.

POPSBicycle for Grocery Shoppers This is an intersting bike make-over. Christy and I have wondered about getting groceries on bikes ... is it really feasible. Our best strategy so far has been to use panniers and other bike bags. However, you can't do much grocery shopping with a system like ours. This strategy converts the bike into a little bit more utilitarian design, by building on more carrying capacity. It's a pretty cool idea.

POPSUS food stamp list tops 34 million for first time Why work??? Food stamps and Obama's healthcare coming so what's the point? I am confident that there are very needy people who benefit from this program but I am convinced that it has gone to the dogs and is beyond abused. Several years I ago I stood behind a woman in the grocery line who had several little ones (and some young adult males) with her. She used her food stamps to purchase milk, bread, cereal, soups, etc... while with her money she purchased beer, ice cream, pastries, shrimp,etc... I was so disheartened and realized that the system was broken. No accountability, no oversight; they are robbing the *system* blind. 34 million Americans do NOT need food stamps; they need incentive and motivation.

POPSThe Seven Most Dangerous Ingredients in Conventional Foods 3) Excitotoxins -- aspartame, monosodium glutamate and others (see below). These neurotoxic chemical additives directly harm nerve cells, over-exciting them to the point of cell death, according to Dr. Russell Blaylock. They're found in diet soda, canned soup, salad dressing, breakfast sausage and even many manufactured vegetarian foods. They're used to add flavor to over-processed, boring foods that have had the life cooked out of them.

POPSThey Have to be Off The Stripper’s Pole By 11:30 on School Nights
That makes total sense. The work permit shows that they are qualified. The requirement to be off the pole by 11:30pm on school nights so they can get a good rest before they go off to learn their ABCs in the morning. What about on weekends? No school the next day? Dance all night! This is frightening. With the increase in teenage runaways and the issue with the other pathetic Rhode Island law " prostitution is legal as long as it’s done inside of a building in Rhode Island. Yes, those buildings with the word “SPA” on it aren’t anything like the Canyon Ranch Spa. They are basically human trafficking centers. This whole minors dancing legally situation was only discovered quite accidentally according to an article in The Providence Journal: Providence police recently discovered that teen job opportunities extend into the local adult entertainment world while they were investigating a 16-year-old runaway from Boston. The girl told detectives that she worked at Cheaters strip
