Why I Will Not Vote for John McCain
monstersmom
by monstersmom  8-19-2008    1
"I can verify that John has an infamous reputation for being a hot head. He has a quick and explosive temper that many have experienced first hand. Folks, quite honestly that is not the finger I want next to that red button." "It is also disappointing to see him take on and support Bush's war in Iraq, even stating we might be there for another 100 years. For me John represents the entrenched and bankrupt policies of Washington-as-usual. The past 7 years have proven to be disastrous for our country. And I believe John's views on war, foreign policy, economics, environment, health care, education, national infrastructure and other important areas are much the same as those of the Bush administration." "I'm disappointed to see John represent himself politically in ways that are not accurate. He is not a moderate Republican. On some issues he is a maverick. But his voting record is far to the right. I fear for his nominations to our Supreme Court, and the consequent continuing loss o

A Cafe To Grow Old In
Allison Van Dusen
by Allison Van Dusen  8-19-2008
QSR's Web site is highlighting a unique concept that's popped up in Chicago - a chain of cafes that caters to the elderly by basically offering day-long early bird specials, among other options, as well as health and wellness resources. Developed by the Chicago-based nonprofit Mather LifeWays, Mather's - More Than a Cafe has a Starbucks-like environment that aims to be hip and engaging -- exactly what health experts say the aging population needs to keep their minds in shape. Customers of all ages also can play Nintendo Wii, take a yoga class or learn how to take care of their finances. The best part? No Bingo!

The Republican Smear Campaign is in Full Swing trying to win the '08 election with fabrications, distortions, lies and nasty name calling... It's Yogi Bearer's déjà vu all over again. Why do people listen and believe this nonsense? This should have been left in grade school a long, long time ago. They say children can be mean... More Big Pharma, Bad Science - Non-smoking Drug
thinkingblue
by thinkingblue  8-16-2008
Now, which is worse in your opinion... Smoking or Suicide? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out. Most would answer ...I THINK I WOULD RATHER SMOKE THAN FOR SURE KILL MYSELF BY TAKING A DRUG TO NOT SMOKE. The saddest part of this is that they (BIG PHARMA) are using our veterans as Guinea pigs in their trial and error tests. Just so they can put on the market more deadly drugs and coerce, we the public to buy into their schemes that make them rich! Patients 'should not expect NHS to save their life if it costs too much'
Smoke TNT
by Smoke TNT  8-15-2008
"Nice defended its ruling last night saying that the Citizens Council provided useful input to its decisions but that the organisation's role was to determine how best to allocate the health service's limited resources." "Nice is facing increasing accusations that it is giving undue weight to financial considerations - rather than medical benefits - when making decisions on whether to allow drugs or other treatments on the NHS. Doctors and patients have alleged that they are treated with contempt by the organisation and that life-saving drugs are being unfairly denied. "

Sorry FOX, We Won't Let You Trash Michelle Obama
glennbah
by glennbah  8-15-2008
You're not going to believe what FOX is up to now—we could hardly believe it ourselves. Not only are they smearing Michelle Obama with racist stereotypes, but then they offer a feeble apology that they believe gives them the right to slander her again. That's what happened when FOX called Michelle and Barack Obama's fist bump a "terrorist fist jab," apologized, and then less than a week later referred to Michelle Obama as Barack's "Baby Mama."

Cigarette Tax Burnout
Rustee
by Rustee  8-11-2008
In New York City and State, tobacco taxes have been raised so many times that the retail cost can exceed $9 a pack -- about double the national average. Few budget-savvy smokers in the Big Apple pay that tax. Patrick Fleenor, an expert on tobacco taxes at the Tax Foundation, estimates that there is "now a 75% gap between cigarette sales in the city and cigarette consumption." In other words, three out of four cigarettes are bought elsewhere or are contraband. In New Jersey, about 40% of the Marlboros and Virginia Slims that are lit up escape the $2.57-a-pack tax. In Washington State, evasion was so rampant that the legislature decided in 2005 to lower the 75% tax on cigars and other tobacco products as a way to raise revenue and help state retailers.
