POPSIs Labour buying silence? After politicising the Civil Service, this corrupt government is now financially rewarding betrayal. Betrayal of an ethos that meant the British CS was the least corrupt in the World. Who can say that this is earned when there are over 3million pensioners still not receiving their rightful benefits, when English men are being suborned into third class citizens in their own country with threats of insidious new laws that prohibit love of ones own country, where these same civil servants act as judge and jury into claims for disability from injured war heroes, these same people who have denied access to personal records that prevent thousands of former soldiers getting a real pensions. Also these same people acquiesce with corrupt political regimes in the hiding of expenses abuses.

POPSMcCain's "Truth Squad" John McCain, Bud Day and Paul Galanti are all war heroes. As is General Clark who returned from Vietnam after receiving four bullet wounds. The difference is that while General Clark reasonably questioned a political candidates ability to lead a nation, John McCain welcomed into his flock two dishonest, deplorable political operatives who he previously described as "dishonorable" Day, and the swifties, opened themselves up to not only criticism but also the complete loss of face, i.e. hero worship and that Honored Discription of others, Hero, by their Blatant Lying with nothing to back up their charges against a Sailor doing an Extremely Dangerous Job On The Ground, i.e. in small boats on the rivers of, Vietnam! And not only one Sailor but those serving with him directly, those serving on the other boats from that base, All Navy Personal Serving In-Country

POPSAnti-Americanism is Mostly Hype American liberalism is heavily invested in this narrative of U.S. isolation. The Shiites have their annual ritual of 10 days of self-flagellation and penance, but this liberal narrative is ceaseless: The world once loved us, and all Parisians were Americans after 9/11, but thanks to President Bush we have squandered that sympathy.... Indeed, in the Arab world of the future, there will be streets and shrines dedicated to George W. Bush, their liberator. Future generations will admire this American president who, against all odds and resisted viciously by rabid liberals, courageously held the line and in the end, prevailed.

POPS Judge Throws the Book at Photographer The judge should really get a clue. Those buried in Arlington fought and died for our constitutional rights such as freedom of the press. If the man wasn't guilty of any other crimes, then there is no way he should have had the book thrown at him for non violent resistance. He never should have been arrested in the first place. He is the one whose rights were violated. I don't think he should have gotten off completely, but when the prosecutor is asking for the minimum, that is all he should have gotten. If anyone should be paying a fine, it should be the department for the poor training of their personnel when it comes to the rights of citizens.

POPSTV Dads I definitely agree with this letter writer. The relationship between Jim Rockford and his dad, "Rocky" was one of the most realistic and touching ever on TV. And the fact that it was the same in real life made it almost unique. A beautiful thing, on screen AND off.

POPS"Whiskey for my men, beer for my horses" The academicians' theme songs are "Kumbaya" and "Imagine," while Jacksonians prefer Toby Keith: "Whiskey for my men, beer for my horses." It was when they lost their warrior edge that Democrats started losing the White House, winning only in unusual circumstances such as the Watergate scandal or in that brief window in history (from the fall of the Berlin Wall through September 11) when foreign threats had faded out of the picture. "Priests . . . write books and sometimes verse," and indeed, Obama wrote two of them. Their campaigns become crusades, fueled as much by an inchoate longing for a 'new politics'. "Obama is not at all a warrior, and is something of an academic," writes Barone: He is all college campus and not at all boot camp. He has campaigned consistently as an opponent of military action in Iraq. He is up against John McCain, a true Jacksonian if ever there was one. Of course, he dispatched another Jacksonian in Hillary Clinton.

POPS D-Day In Context Perhaps that's because it would draw parallels between those who stormed the coast of France in 1944 and those who are fighting now -- and winning -- a war against radical Islam. Unlike those who braved their way into Hitler's Fortress Europe, the young Americans fighting today's battles reap few accolades from the potentates of the press or the liberal "leadership" in Washington. A recent editorial warned about Iraq: "Don't look now, but the U.S.-backed government and army may be winning the war." And it took to task those who comprise "the 'this-war-is-lost' caucus." The victories over al-Qaida and the Shiite militias in Iraq, against the Taliban and Osama bin Laden's remnant in Afghanistan, have been won by U.S. soldiers, sailors, airmen, guardsmen and Marines -- and the new allies in these countries. Those who landed on the beaches of Normandy 64 years ago were American heroes. So are those who serve today.
