POPSOil price plunge hurting mullahs: Ahmadinejad suspends tax hike Iranian merchants are revolting. Very funny. I don't mean their offensive odor. I mean they are protesting the harsh economic times with oil prices slashed by 50% and hurting the economy which is geared to producing nukes. Now how about a full blockade on their ports? No more an act of war than Iran providing explosively formed penetrators to their Iraqi stooges that have been killing our boys in harm's way.

POPSIllinois, The State That Lags Economically
As a resident of Illinois, I have seen first hand what the effects of Obama's "change" have been. In 2003, Obama voted to raise the state corporate income tax by $59 million for industries that use heavy machinery. The tax hit consumers of oil, coal, other natural resources Voted for a property tax hike to increase patronage employees' pay. The bill, costing taxpayers $31 million per year, was vetoed only to be overridden by the senate and house. In 2004, Obama voted for yet another state income-tax increase that hit Illinois businesses for an additional $29 million per year. In addition, Obama also voted for increased real estate sales taxes and a computer software sales tax hike that cost Illinois consumers and home buyers a combined $95 Million. Obama also supported a 33% increase in licensing fees on Illinois Residents. In a single massive bill in 2004, Obama voted to increase over 300 TAXES AND FEES Assessed on professionals and businesses operating under state license

POPSClubForGrowth Vote Alert - Energy Bill The moratorium on drilling in the Outer Continental Shelf expires at the end of the year, yet supporters of this bill want to continue that ban on nearly 90% of OCS through this proposal. Along with the tax hikes and the subsidies for alternative fuels, there is nothing pro-growth about this proposal. In addition, we recently learned that an undisclosed, non-germane $2 billion earmark was inserted into this bill in complete violation of House rules. It should be vigorously voted down.

POPSMore insight It will always be that that those who habitually exempt themselves from the standards they set for others will endow themselves with much superiority. The progressive agenda is not a government by the people for the people, it is a government by the self-appointed elite for the people that cannot do anything were it not for a benevolent oligarchy.

POPSOnly Spend What You Have - Now That's a Novel Thought It's no surprise our budget deficit soared again. Bush has pushed tax rebates and lower taxes overall, which is great. But when you couple it with increased spending, it spells disaster. Republicans will be quick to point out Democrats want to increase government spending and taxes, but the results show Republicans are just as good at spending money, if not better. The difference is they won't take responsibility for it and instead will leave us in a deficit for the next regime to handle.

POPS"The Sarah Palin Baby"- Her Baby or Her Daughter's? If your governor was 7 or 8 months pregnant, wouldn't you know it? Watch Sarah Palin, supposedly 8 months pregnant, in this interview, in which she also consumes a latte and fudge (i.e. plenty of caffeine), something that doctors strongly urge pregnant mothers not to do. Does she look pregnant at all? (Interview used in video is from Alaska Podshow "Urban Hike with Sarah Palin" and the interviewer has blogged about this here ).

POPSCEO's And Their Paychecks Disproportionate, outrageous, rip-off, shear greed, socking it to the people, billions lost to the "fair tax system" and Biden, Obama, McCain and the rest have no real answer, or do they? What a scam. When will people get really ticked off? What does it take?

POPS"Obamanomics" A "Recipe For Recession" Thus, while Mr. Obama also proposes an alternative minimum tax (AMT) patch, he could instead wind up with the permanent abolition plan for the AMT proposed by the Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charlie Rangel (D., N.Y.) -- a 4.6% additional hike in the marginal rate with no deductibility of state income taxes. Marginal tax rates would then approach 70%, levels not seen since the 1970s and among the highest in the world. The after-tax return to work -- the take-home wage for more time or effort -- would be cut by more than 40%. That would, obviously, devastate the economy. Worse, it is unfair. It is simply immoral for the state to confiscate 70% of anyone's income. It would be deeply ironic if, at a time when the rest of the world is moving toward greater freedom in the form of lower tax rates, the United States were to regress to the stultifying statism of the 1970s. Yet that is exactly what Barack Obama promises.

POPSLawmakers Could Consider Gas Tax Hike Just three years ago, that trust fund enjoyed a surplus of $10 billion. Even without a tax freeze, the fund is projected to finish 2009 with a deficit of $3 billion. That that could grow as Americans drive less and buy less gas because of higher pump prices. The consequence is that only about $27 billion in federal money will be available next year to states and local governments for new infrastructure investment even though the current highway act calls for spending $41 billion a year. For many, the solution is to raise rather than suspend or cut federal fuel taxes, which haven't changed since 1993. The Transportation Construction Coalition, a group of industry companies and unions, said that if Congress does not do something about the shortfall, states will lose about one-third of their road and bridge money in the budget year starting Oct. 1. That would put 485,000 more jobs at risk.

POPSObama's Tax Redistribution ...Obama's plan would greatly accelerate the decades-long trend toward a federal government that depends for tax revenue almost exclusively on a few high-income people. I guess you can call greatly accelerating in the same direction, "change". Hodge acknowledges that some Americans may cheer this dramatic dependence on the highest earners, but he says the shift should be part of a larger national discussion asking questions such as: * What is the long-term effect on the economy if so few households shoulder such a large share of the tax burden? * When a majority of Americans are paying so little for government, will that majority then demand even more services than they would have otherwise? * Can a tax system so focused on redistribution be compatible with economic growth? The new study, "Hard Numbers on Obama's Redistribution Plan," is available online at www.taxfoundation.org/publications/show/23319.html.
