POPSReligion, Caste, and Fear This has been brewing for some time in India with no coverage to speak of in the US. For a country like India with such a long history it's bewildering that they haven't eliminated such blatant rigid social expressions of division which lead to this bloody encounter.

POPSHindu Cooties Unambiguous religious discrimination against a class of people fuels violent unrest in India. Directed mainly towards Christian, it has been seen that Christian converts are disproportionately found to be from India's lower castes. Thus there appears to be not only a problem with friction between Hindus and Christians but the age old problem of class discrimination to boot.

POPSBali Hindus Challenge Indonesian Porn Legislation It's time for a clip that has nothing to do with US politics: Usually when we hear about religious minorities making a fuss about anti-porn laws, it's because they're not restrictive enough. But Bali's 93% majority Hindus fear that the new, draconian laws being contemplated by the rest of Indonesia's Muslim majority will trample on local customs such as erotic temple statuary and threaten the tourist trade - skimpy is a word that barely describes the swimwear on Bali's beaches (pun intended) Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika said, "Many people in Papua still live naked or half-naked. POPSNow Hindus are Offended Oh dear. Now the world's Hindus had their feeling hurt by a Mike Myers's movie. From all accounts it boomed at the box office but none the less Hindus are claiming that teens... Never mind. This is so stupid that I can't even muster outrage over it. These nut jobs have surpassed themselves.

POPSAtheist soldier suing Army for discrimination Well, it is probable that this is all a part of the radical religious right and their agenda, but I've got no evidence of any conspiracy or anything. Still, it seems the folks at Fort Riley had a political agenda, at least according to the lawsuit. And I'm not seeing denials about that.

POPSFrom a diatribe on Advertising and Bullshit: I can see the Sun. It's there for me every day. And the things it brings me are quite apparent all the time: heat, light, food, a lovely day. There's no mystery, no one asks for money, I don't have to dress up, and there's no boring pageantry. And interestingly enough, I have found that the prayers I offer to the sun and the prayers I formerly offered to God are all answered at about the same 50-percent rate.
