POPSREVEREND SHILOH FOREMAN REMEMBERS SLAIN GOTHIC HORROR NOVELIST VIOLETTE HARKER
In the wake of the violent slaying of Gothic Mystery author Violette Harker, Reverend Shiloh Foreman spoke to the Swanshead Chronicler yesterday about the recently slain 63 year old writer (known locally as Prudence Meriweather). Speaking dolefully to a reporter, the Reverend said, ‘Her death leaves a big hole in our community, for around here the Afro-American community had no kinder friend than Ms. Meriweather.’ Noted for her peculiar stance of only hiring or working with the descendents of the black slaves who had worked her family’s plantation from 1808 until 1865, she had bucked the trend of the other area farms who in recent decades have hired roving teams of migrants to do their work. At this time, the Meriweather Plantation (called Hollywood for it’s many large Holly trees in the front and sideyards) may be the only one in the state that is still largely sharecropped by the very same families that have done it for nearly 150 years.

POPSSLAIN HORROR AUTHOR WILL WRITE NO MORE THRILLERS
The recent gruesome lynch-slaying of Gothic Mystery novelist Violette Harker (in real life Prudence Meriweather) has Eastern North Carolinians talking about the real life author and her eccentric points of view. Something that never ceases to amuse folks around Swanshead was her strange form of progressivism which she zealously practiced and relentlessly advocated. A committed Libertarian, the deceased 63 year old Ms. Meriweather liked to say, ‘You can’t trust Democrats- as they’ll tax you off your land, and as you’re being evicted they’ll tell you that you shouldn’t smoke, drink, or eat fried foods... while the Republicans will tell you they’re small government- as they break the treasury and send our children to their deaths in unnecessary foreign wars. Many did not believe that her vision of a modern North Carolina as a 19th century style of government minus slavery and Jim Crow could work nowadays. Ironic that Ms. Meriweather came to her end in manner traditionally reserved for

POPSTHE REAL LIFE UNDOING OF A GOTHIC HORROR NOVELIST
The folks in Swanshead, North Carolina are very divided over recently slain Prudence Meriweather (nationally known as Gothic mystery novelist Violette Harker), for much like the heroine of her series Virginia Chestnutt, she came from an upper class background in Eastern North Carolina, but went to college in the north at Wellesley. Her partner Morganna Blount recently told us, ‘A lot of people didn’t know how to handle Prudi; for she was very very feminine & very drawn to men, but only took women for lovers - was an animal rights activist, yet was an expert marksman with her great great grandaddy’s Kentucky rifle that he claimed to have used with Junius Daniel’s brigade in the army of Northern Virginia to shoot down 61 Yankee officers in the war of Northern Aggression - ate only organic foods, yet rolled her own cigarettes -and while fiercely supporting equal opportunity for all, refused to hire any help for her home or farm other than the black descendents of her family’s slaves.

POPSTHE HORRIBLE REAL-LIFE SLAYING OF GOTHIC HORROR NOVELIST VIOLETTE HARKER
The funeral for recently slain mystery author Prudence Meriweather (known as Violette Harker nationally) was held yesterday. The eulogy was delivered by Father Wesley Richardson of the Swanshead Episcopal church, Rabbi Vilkomir of Greenville, and Ms. Meriweather’s longtime domestic partner Miss Morganna Blount who quoted the author as saying, “Unlike what has happened to the rest of the state, Eastern North Carolina has somehow managed to preserve much of it’s psychic identity & architectural heritage intact against the incessant barrage of electronic communication mediums, retiree immigrations, big government, and the developer barons from Raleigh. The historic Tarheel atmosphere of towns like Little Washington, Edenton, Murfreesboro, Hertford, and Tarboro are cultural treasures that find no equivalents in the rest of the country; as in places like these, people still take a true interest in each other.’ Ms. Meriweather was praised for her vision of a loving North Carolina.

POPSGUNS NOT BEHIND THE DEATH OF GOTHIC HORROR NOVELIST
Thursday night’s lynching murder of nationally known mystery author Violette Harker was the hot topic over biscuits and jelly yesterday, as the Eastern North Carolina town of Swanshead passed over from disbelief to sparring over their opinions on the recent lynching murder of Prudence Meriweather. (Known nationally as mystery author Violette Harker, Prudence Meriweather had used the town’s name and the town’s past in her series ‘Swanshead Rätzel’) On condition of anonymity, one said, ‘Not that I sympathize with the lynching of Ms. Meriweather- but you can understand how that stuff she wrote could rile some. NOBODY wants their dirty laundy aired nationally.’ Ms Meriweather’s longtime companion Morganna Blount said, ‘Prudi was the best kind of new Southerner- tied to the past but not living it.’ A fierce advocate for animal & gay rights, Southern Heritage, & historic architecture, Prudence Meriweather will be buried in a private ceremony today in her family’s plantation cemetery.

POPSSOUTHERN STYLE DEATH TAKES GOTHIC HORROR NOVELIST
In yesterday’s new conference, Sheriff Lynch of Swanshead, North Carolina was mum about suspects, but he did say that ‘The author Prudence Meriweather (known nationally as Violette Harker) was apparently dragged from her hotel room on Thursday night by her assailants and was found hanging from a tree not far from her family’s antebellum plantation between little Washington and Edenton. Her publicist stated that when the author was missing for their scheduled breakfast Friday morning, she informed authorities. “Prudence was the most considerate and punctual person I ever met- when she didn’t show up, I just knew something was wrong.’ Ms. Meriweather had not been popular in the local area lately, as her mystery ‘Swanshead Rätzel’ shined a bright light on Swanshead’s long hidden past- including graft, misogyny, homophobia, corruption, strange Jim Crow, and the terrorism of KKK cross burnings and lynchings- an unlikely twist of fate which ultimately befell her.

POPSMYSTERY AUTHOR MEETS MYSTERIOUS REAL-LIFE DEATH
We thought that we had gotten past all this stuff from the past, but apparently it ain’t so,’ remarked longtime Sheriff Whitey Lynch of Swanshead, North Carolina. Unidentified sources say that the murder of mystery novelist Prudence Meriweather (a.k.a Violette Harker) in her hotel room Thursday night, may have links to a polarized public reaction over her main character- a small town Southern upper class lesbian heroine named Virginia Chestnutt- and her revelations about the eastern North Carolina town hidden past not far from where she was born. Lynchings, incest, murder, ghosts, scheming developers, mass Yankee retiree migrations and gospel gone awry were all part and parcel of the now deceased Violette Harker’s series. Ms. Meriweather had been attending a local book-signing and promotional event that very day before the fateful return to her hotel room that night. A native of the area, Ms. Meriweather had been born on a family farm between Edenton and little Washington.
