The Bishop was buried the next day.

In Europe, horses are typically raced later, when their "growth plates" (leg bones) are fully formed and they are less prone to injury. Greedy Americans don't want to spend the money to keep the horse "hanging around" (to wit, not earning money) until they are 4 or 5 years old, and so we race them before their legs are strong enough to handle injury. Many horses are forced to live 23-7 in their stalls, except for the hour or so per day when they are exercised. The human equivalent would be tying someone to his or her bed for 23 hours per day, only letting them out to run for an hour. Wouldn't you go crazy under those circumstances? I hope Eight Belles's death serves as something more than a one-day news story. I hope her sacrifice causes every fan of horse racing to stop patronizing the sport or betting on the mounts until major reforms take place.

The restoration, begun after the house was found in the 1970s, has reconstructed shattered frescoes in deep reds, yellows and blues featuring theatrical masks and mythical animals. "The extremely high quality of the frescoes befits the owner, although these were the fashions of the time and don't offer much insight into Augustus's individual taste," said Angelo Bottini, Rome's archaeological chief. But what about the very obviously improbable events: there are no reports of him seducing mortal women today. He doesn’t make deals to build walls around modern cities as he did with Troy. He had children that included mermaids, winged horses, cyclopses, and giants; we don’t see creatures like this today. Why is it that all these supernatural events were recorded frequently back then, but not now?

POPS Horse flu: NSW to give $7.5m Ms Toft said she was alarmed at the DPI's lack of urgency over the outbreak on her property, where other mares and some older horses were sick."We haven't had much help from the DPI since the beginning," she said. "We reported our property to be infected now 14 days ago and we still, to this day, we haven't had a DPI inspector onto our property to look at the severity of the problem." She urged breeders to band together and voice their concerns to the Government. A DPI spokesman today said that biosecurity was everyone's responsibility, including horse owners and their vets. He said a DPI inspector would be unable to visit other properties for 24 hours after being on an infected site.
