POPS"Brit firm to demo serious flying robo-saucer in 2009" http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/08/27/gfs_saucers_to_get_serious/ Oh great - the UK has more CCTV camera's than anywhere else; now they'll actually be able to follow us home. I guess it was inevitable the concept has featured in many Sci Fi scenarios over the years.

POPS Jimmy Carter And The Demise Of The Shah Of Iran
"What is going on in Iran is about the best thing going on anywhere in the world", President Lyndon B. Johnson pronounced in 1964. During the 1970's Iran's Shah propelled Iran into becoming a dynamic middle-east regional power. The Shah implemented broad economic and social reforms, including enhanced rights for women, and religious and ethnic minorities. Economic and educational reforms were adopted, initiatives to cleanse politics of social upheaval were systematized, and the civil service system was reformed. When sectors of society rioted to demand even greater freedom, the Shah promised constitutional reform to favor democracy. Soviet and fundamentalist Islamic pressures, constitutional reform remained on the back burner, as the Shah built what was the world's fifth or sixth largest armed force. In 1976, it had an estimated 3,000 tanks, 890 helicopter gunships, over 200 advanced fighter aircraft, the largest fleet of hovercraft in any country and 9,000 anti-tank missiles.

POPSRemember Personal Hovercraft by 2000? How great would this be! Unfortunately I don't think I'll ever see it happen. As my title to this clip laments, I'm still waiting for my own personal hover craft that was promised over 50 years ago and still isn't here. Ah, but there's always hope. :-)

POPSWIng in Ground Effect Vehicles Possibly one of the coolest ways to get around on water (or just above it) WIGs can travel as fast as a plane with only a fraction of the fuel.
