POPSHuh? Elected officials held accountable? I woke up in another universe this morning. Here in this universe, elected officials are held accountable for their mistakes that harm you. I suspect though that collecting on the courts award will be another nightmare altogether.

POPSFirst Olbermann and Matthews, Now Andrew Sullivan? "Thank you for your many emails of concern. For the record, I'm absolutely fine, nothing has changed with this blog, no one is pressuring me to write or not write anything, and I spent part of the day yesterday with my husband soaking up the last moments of summer together." Uh huh. Within hours, he then posted this creepy "Quote of the Day": "Wovon man nicht sprechen kann, darüber muß man schweigen." This, as everyone of course knows, translates to: What we cannot speak of, we must pass over in silence. It immediately occurred to me at this point what was going on. Our Andy got in twuble. =( So now he's taking time off to "recover" from being humiliated and realizing that, surprise surprise, just because you're a blogger and the internet might be "anything goes" for some... you still work for somebody else who has, you know, a business to run.

POPSWhy the Press Claims, Falsely, That Sarah Palin Wasn’t Vetted
Because They Got Surprised By The VP Pick I was impressed by the story of someone who seemed to be a political success, yet comes from a slice of middle America, as opposed to the moneyed elite from which most politicians spring. (I still think this aspect of her story is going to prove to be enormously powerful, in a way few expect. Americans will relate to Sarah Palin.) I was excited by the idea of someone who could bring life to a tired Republican ticket. My friend hadn’t heard of Palin. But readers of Beldar had. And readers of my site had. So when I was on vacation, woke up in Curry Village at Yosemite, fired up the Treo, and saw that McCain had picked Palin, I was thrilled. But at the same time, most of the press was saying: “Huh? Who dat?” To their detriment, they don’t read Beldar. So while you and I and Beldar were immediately rejoicing, the press corps — which considers itself the ultimate insiders — felt left out in the cold. And now they’re pissed off.

POPSSill Officials Force Mold Whistleblower to Resign Roeder's departure Friday, following his contact with USA Today, was purely coincidental, said Col. Sam White, an executive officer at Fort Sill. He said Roeder has a history of confrontations with base officials. "Purely coincidental." Guess the guy just had it coming, huh? "They can say whatever they want to say, but they're not being truthful," Roeder said. "I stand up for soldiers. I'm sure the word got out that I'd encouraged soldiers to speak." Roeder, a retired soldier, said he was told to resign or he would be fired. A long time ago, I would have erred on the side of the Army and its professional leadership. But not after the past half decade or so. Given its recent track record, I think the Army has to answer for this one: Why are we punishing people for trying to improve the lives of soldiers? I also think it's worth repeating what I wrote a few months ago about whistleblowers, the military, and the media:

Also miss jolie says she likes mccain too and hasn't decided who to endorse....huh? Aren't you supposed to be somewhat enlightened, or do you not know that the african daughter you hold in every picture had parents who suffered and died because of the republican party's worldwide economic assault on africa over the last few decades since reagan? whaaaa...??????!!!! (for that matter, the thai and vietnamese sons you are photo'd with weekly too!!!? who's pictures you sell to raise money to help the poor? Their families are victims of America's right wing military incursions too. Mccain wants to continue with the idea of war for profit...the americans are over that thinking now! They have drugged our troops and lower classes into supporting their oil business atrocities for long enough. We want to save not lose our souls thank you. Now go back to making your movies about women who love to handle big guns that shoot hundreds of people to death. Ps....it might be good for your asian and afr
