POPSOlympic stars struggle to score showbiz gold "And Phelps could fade even within the Olympics, which still has another week left after the athlete kicks through his last breaststroke Saturday. "There's no question that Michael is an important driver of interest in the Olympics," NBC research chief Alan Wurtzel said. "But the Olympics turn out to be more than Michael Phelps."

POPSThe joy of taking some time out Embrace the faff. Stare out of the window. Bend paperclips. Stand in the middle of the room trying to remember what you came downstairs for. Pace. Drum your fingertips. Move papers around. Hum. Look at the garden.Go to the shed with the intention of tidying up and instead fall asleep. Make mental notes. Read every single word of the newspaper - even the job ads - before getting down to work. Lose yourself in erotic reveries. Pat your pockets. Resolve to be more organised in future. Be useless.

POPSList Universe's Top 10 Unsolved Mysteries Excellent primer on many of the more well known mysteries like the Shroud, the Black Dahlia, Mary Celeste and Jack the Ripper. The less well-known mysteries like the Babushka Lady, the Voynich Manuscript, The Taos Hum, The Zodiac Killer and the Comte de Sainte-Germaine are informative in a few short paragraphs and I suggest those interested to use this as a stepping stone into their own search for the weird, unusual, bizarre and truly unsolved mysteries.

POPSBarbecue Grills and Recipes for Real Men "Where there’s smoke, there’s fire and barbecue, and men love grilling for the sheer danger of it. With one part lighting fluid, a flame and some breeze, what could possibly go wrong? If there isn’t the chance of a 911 call, many men couldn’t be troubled with the task. And there’s a world of difference between a ho-hum grill and a real man’s barbecue to make you the Dadio of the patio. " The recipes can be found at the source in a series of video instructions - quite a few of them!

POPSLadies Prefer Vespa While writing about biker art, and looking for female riders, I was reminded of those old, Italian, vintage Vespa posters. With all due respect to the roaring Harley, lets move on to the waspy hum of the Vespa.

POPSEarth hums while making love waves The seismic stations had to be boring, or the waves would not nave been heard above the noise. Named after Professor Augustus Love the mathematician who created the model of such waves in 1911. They are still unsure exactly how they are formed, but believe wind , ocean or solar forces may contribute. They say that now they know what to look for, they can find the waves at other stations, which might help point researchers in the direction of the source.

POPSSeven Cues for Possible Lies
2. Speech Disturbances – When we lie, we force our brain to pretend: that the lie is true, that the truth is a lie and simultaneously remember, that the real truth is that each is the other. Are you confused? So is your brain when you lie. The process of deception taxes our cognitive capability to think efficiently, so when we are lying, we will pause longer and speak slower than normal and often experience speech disturbances that serve as gap fillers. These include, but are not limited to, ah, er, um, ug, hum, etc. You should train yourself to be alert for deception when you hear this kind of verbal cue. 3. Incongruent behavior – When our words and our body language don’t agree, our communication is said to be incongruent. For example, imagine that you ask a salesman if he can assure your delivery will be on time. If he explains how certain he is about it being on time while also shaking his head (as if non-verbally saying “no”), he is incongruent. When this sort of incongruency o

POPSJezebel's response to WP article by Charlotte Allen I love Twitter. I get exposed to things that I am not exposed to. Here is a great response (paragraph by paragraph) to Charlotte Allen's OP-ED piece on Sunday for the Washington Post. "Tongue-In-Cheek"? What a load of bullshit!?! There are lots of responses and all I can say is that article (if you want to call it that) is offensive and full of shit. I really hate it when women hate themselves. Hum, I wonder what Charlotte Allen is thinking or is she going to respond? I love that the editor of the WP responded for her.

POPSThe cunundrum It strikes me as ironic to hear business owners say "I chose X because it was free." and in the same breath will get irate when a customer of theirs chooses a free or lower cost product/service instead of theirs.
