Oil Supply Increases, Oil Price Increases
blueridge
by blueridge  Today 5:05 PM
Proof again supply is not the problem driving prices on oil and gas. Note this happens as the oil laden Caspian region (Russia, Georgia, etc.) comes into play with war and rumors of war--and particularly as Condi Rice (former exec at Chevron) goes around heightening US rhetoric against Russia and signing provocatory missile agreements with its satellite states. It is not actual supply so much as perceived supply which is effected by wars and "geopolitical" tensions and factors . Change the (neoconservative) war policy, prices will drop.

Report From a Forgotten War: Second in a Series
merrie
by merrie  Yesterday 7:48 AM
Taliban leaders also provided a haven for Usama bin Laden's Al Qaeda to launch the 9/11 attack. In November 2001, when they were deposed by the U.S.-backed Northern Alliance, many of the Taliban fled south to Pakistan and east into Iran. This spring, they came back, intent on overthrowing the democratically elected government of President Hamid Karzi. That's when the Marines of TF 2/7 arrived "in country" to train and mentor Afghan Army and police forces. It's been a challenging assignment for the 1300 Marines, sailors, soldiers and airmen of TF 2/7. The unit's Area of Operations (A/O) is more than 28,000 square kilometers — roughly the size of Vermont. There is only one paved highway. Overland transport to some of the fifteen forward bases and combat outposts where TF 2/7 operates often takes more than 24 hours of continuous day and night movement. Until this week — when four CH-53 transport helos and four Cobra gunships arrived, the task force had to rely on NATO aircraft...

Balance Of Power- II
klippety
by klippety  8-18-2008
In the waining days of the Neo-Con administration, McCain needs all the help he can get for his election and furthermore, the Geopolitical strategies of NATO and the " NEW Europe ", mostly quite right wing, must do all they can to undermine Russia and China. Human rights in Russia, China and the demand from the collective West for more Democracy are diversions and fueled by propaganda.

Prior to the Iraqi offensive against the Mahdi Army and allied Shia terror groups in Baghdad and the South from March through July, Iran ran at least three terror camps inside southern Iraq, and one inside Iran, according to a US military briefing map obtained by The Long War Journal. The map also details the Ramazan Corp's supply lines, weapons storage depot, command centers, and points of entry in central and southern Iraq.

They are expected to be so popular, that there will soon be fueling stations for them. Maybe they could just supercharge the tyre pump. The car is expected to need 2 litres of fuel per 100 kilometers. The prototype of the bike, can hold 91/2 litres of compressed air, which will carry a rider for just over a kilometer.

If the supreme power lowered the prices isn't it likely that the same power is responsible for the rise in the 1st place. Could this be a cheap tactic by our Deity to get more prayers?

This is a nice read on the role of government's involvement in energy tech. It's also interesting to see SunPower (nasdaq: SPWR) here. That stock is off 40% from a 52-week high but still sells for 5.6 times sales.

Prayer At The Pump
debbyski
by debbyski  8-14-2008    1
Here's one you'll never hear: Oh most merciful Jesus, forgive us Bush LUVIN' fools for our "family values" by slashing social spending and bankrupting the government to pay for tax breaks for the rich, corporate welfare, and an insane, cold war-style buildup, for reversing a half century's work of hard-won environmental protections and ignoring the constitution, for making a human being a king, and for making our "moral values" our issues to shroud our wickedness in Godliness. Please forgive us for our vision, oops, hallucination that we are officially authorized by YOU to decide which values are "family" and "traditional" and how everyone should live by not promoting better wages, work conditions and job security. Forgive us Father, for we have sinned. And please lower the price of gas? AMEN.

Putin Makes His Move
merrie
by merrie  8-11-2008    1
Putin's aggression against Georgia should not be traced only to its NATO aspirations or his pique at Kosovo's independence. It is primarily a response to the "color revolutions" in Ukraine and Georgia in 2003 and 2004, when pro-Western governments replaced pro-Russian ones. Ever since, Putin has been determined to stop and, if possible, reverse the pro-Western trend on his borders. He seeks not only to prevent Georgia and Ukraine from joining NATO but also to bring them under Russian control. He seeks to carve out a zone of influence within NATO, with a lesser security status for countries along Russia's strategic flanks. That is the primary motive behind Moscow's opposition to U.S. missile defense programs in Poland and the Czech Republic. His war against Georgia is part of this grand strategy. Putin cares no more about a few thousand South Ossetians than he does about Kosovo's Serbs.

Kites could provide electricity for 100,000 homes
Silkweaver
by Silkweaver  8-10-2008    3
Several other scientists are investigating the use of kites to harness energy from the wind - which some researchers estimate provides more than 100 times the amount required to power the entire planet. In 2007, Google´s philanthropic arm invested about $10 million in a US kite company called Makani. An Italian company called Kitegen has a multi-kite scheme that could generate a gigawatt of power, as much as a standard coal plant.

EPA Refuses to Cut Ethanol Requirements
Kelika
by Kelika  8-10-2008
"Response to the decision fell along predictable lines: The Environmental Working Group's director of government affairs, Sandra Schubert, called the mandate "misguided" and said it was "forcing farmers to plow up marginal land and wildlife habitat while increasing global warming and dumping toxic fertilizers and pesticides into our precious water sources." "America should be focusing on viable clean energy solutions like conservation, solar and wind," she said. The president of the Biotechnology Industry Organization, Jim Greenwood, said the decision sent "a strong message that we must continue moving forward toward sustainable production of advanced biofuels" to cut dependence on important oil and to increase biofuel production from non-food sources. His organization represents biotech companies, among others involved in expanding the use of biofuels.""
