Ocean review finds warming on the rise.
pokkets
by pokkets  6-19-2008    1
It isn't just that ice is melting that is making the sea level rise, it is also the fact that water expands as it heats. With the volume of water in the ocean - 2/3 of the Earth's surface is covered with water, even a small temperature increase can have a dramatic effect. The way the expansion, and melting are factored into the research reports can make them a lot clearer, and more accurate. While there are the best of intentions, regarding some kind of remedy, I don't remember anyone being able to literally turn back the tide, which seems like the bottom line. King Canute had a go, but he was trying to prove that point to some knucklehead courtiers, who'd flattered him. He knew they were full of hot air, but figured it was worth getting wet to see the look on their faces. Don't you hate it when a King calls your bluff. Still you can look at the bright side. The world is getting more like Venice every day. All you have to do is buy shares in a Gondola Company.

.....BUT YOU MUST READ THIS VERY DISTURBING ANNOUNCEMENT!!! The part about carriyng out detention and "housing" ANYBODY. We're on the doorstep of mass incarcerations and be damned with local, state regulations and other plans. Folks, if this kind of disasterous government interference continues we are all doomed, no matter who you are. These broad and all-encompassing actions are not even mentioned by MSM. More evidence of complicity if you ask me.

Southern Ocean rise due to warming not ice.
pokkets
by pokkets  2-18-2008
I'm sure whatever affects one ocean will affect all of them either directly or indirectly. With all of the talk of ice melts, where the rise may come from land based ice, that slides into the ocean when once it would have been frozen tight, one of the primary causes of sea level rise will be due to the fact that like all but a few things, water expands when it warms. While the temperature rises may seem small, the volumes involved mean the expansion can be significant. That's not to mention the increased amount of energy held in the water, which can contribute to stronger storms, and rougher seas. The ocean is a big place, and for the temperature to rise by one degree, means a vast amount of energy stored.

Report From Greenland: Too Much Ice Causing Polar Bears To Go Hungry
merrie
by merrie  2-16-2008
Minus 30 degrees Celsius. That's how cold it's been in large parts of western Greenland where the population has been bundling up in hats and scarves. At the same time, Denmark's Meteorological Institute states that the ice between Canada and southwest Greenland right now has reached its greatest extent in 15 years. But how do these new reports fit in with continual reports that ice in the Arctic Ocean has been melting at a record rate due to increasing temperatures? And isn't global warming at the top of the political agenda these years? If it's up to meteorologists from Denmark's Meteorological Institute, there is not anything inherently contradictory that extreme cold is replaced by higher temperatures than average. Or that melting sea ice occasionally is replaced by expanding ice sheets.
