South Pointing Chariot - Ancient Chinese Invention
Rustee
by Rustee  5-17-2008
It was invented, forgotten, re-invented, and modified many times throughout Chinese history. While none of the historic South Pointing Chariots remain, full sized replicas can be found, along with smaller sized working models (some have even been made with LEGO's).

Private Happiness, Public Gloom
abailart
by abailart  1-4-2008    2
See Hannah Arendt's 'Human Condition' for a brilliant analysis of the decline of the public. Ultimately, the celebration and wallowing in personal fulfilment represent the depoliticisation of society, the abnegation of personal power and a fearful atomised defence mechanism in a world perceived to be hostile and all-powerful.

Bolivian President appears on Daily Show
aeovsenik
by aeovsenik  9-26-2007
I watched this and it was absolutely great. This president has proven himself successful in the face of ridiculous adversity. He didn't get some of the jokes, but the language barrier is particularly hard when it comes to idioms in Spanish and English. But he did get the last laugh in, with his asking that we don't consider him part of the axis of evil.

I have only clipped the popular sayings and topics discussed in this article. Please read the original source for explanations and details behind each subject. I am not certain as to the validity of some of these claims, but this was a very interesting read and well worth the time. Enjoy.
