POPSPLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE RULED CONSTITUTIONAL
In a separate case brought by Newdow, the appeals court ruled today that printing the motto “In God We Trust” on U.S. currency and coins is also constitutional. Newdow first sued the school district over the pledge in 2000. Ruling that Newdow lacked the right to sue in that case, the U.S. Supreme Court in 2004 reversed a decision from the appeals court in his favor. He sued a second time along with a student in the school system, winning in the district court after arguing his own case. Patriotic Exercises Justice Department lawyers had argued that previous Supreme Court decisions permit patriotic exercises such as reading the Declaration of Independence and singing the national anthem. In Newdow’s first lawsuit, the Bush administration defended the use of the phrase “one nation under God,” claiming it acknowledged the role that faith played in the founding of the country. POPSCitibank Warns of Withdrawal Gate I called Citi about it and they said the warning applies only to customers in Texas and that the notification had been mistakenly included on statements nationwide. Whatever the explanation, it doesn't exactly inspire confidence in Citi. I've got nothing against Citi as a general matter -- I have friends who work there, and know some account holders who are generally satisfied customers. But it's hard to believe a bank would be sending out a notice like that on its statements.
