POPSBe Very Wary of Conservatives
The rightwing is still trying to gut worthwhile projects that will allow people a bigger voice. They’ve been doing this for years with the backing of the very people who will be significantly hurt by such gutting. Such as Trickle Down Economics (The providing tax cuts to businesses and the rich, in the belief that it will trickle down to those on the bottom.) We are witnessing, the damage from this pipedream. Another is the Wolfowitz or later renamed Bush Doctrine (in so many words) a fantasy or belief that Democracy could be forced on other nations through pre-emptive war. Sadness abound from this one. Then the use of fear to gut our freedoms. Using newspeak to get the power they lust for, which was disastrous to our freedoms. Their plots have been exposed but we still need to remain diligent. The rightwing’s desire for status quo is still intact, and they will still pull the wool over our eyes to deny us the ability to protect what is best for us. http://seiu.org/employeefreechoice/

POPSButternut Squash, Apple, and Onion Galette with Stilton Remove the blade and bring the dough together by hand. Shape the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate at least 1 hour. For the filling: Halve and core the apple. Cut each 1/2 into 8 wedges and put them in a large bowl. Slice the squash and cut the onion into wedges so that both are as thick as the apple wedges, and add them to the apples. Add the butter, rosemary, and thyme and toss gently to combine. Season with salt and pepper and toss again. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Roll the dough on a lightly floured surface into a 12-inch disk. Transfer the dough to a baking sheet and brush with mustard. Starting 2 inches from the edge, casually alternate pieces of apple, squash, and onion in overlapping circles—if you have extra pieces of one or another, tuck them in where you can or double them up until to use all the filling. Fold and pleat the dough over the edge of the filling.

POPSA Look at Avebury Circle continues As originally constructed, Avebury Henge consisted of a large stone circle around the inside the bank and ditch, with two smaller inner circles. There were two ceremonial avenues: the West Kennet Avenue (made of 100 pairs of stones), entering on the south side; and the Beckhampton Avenue, entering the west causeway. Inside the Northern Inner Circle was the Cove, which may have been aligned on the moon's northernmost rising point. The Southern Inner Circle had a great Obelisk in the center (now lost). Much still remains to be studied about Avebury, and much about its construction and purpose remains a mystery. The stones remained intact but unused throughout the later prehistoric periods. It is not known why the site was abandoned, but Stonehenge was likewise left behind. Archaeological finds show that the site may have been visited by the Romans as a curiosity.

POPSYou don't always know when the sky is gonna fall Corruption, racketeering, and bribery or all familiar terms to federal prosecutors going after Mafia bosses. Strange when these activities take place on Wall Street no similar charges are filed and personal fortunes are kept intact.

POPSA Mammoth Discovery Could mammoths once again roam the earth? This article is about a year old and I've not spotted any around Atlanta yet. I'll keep an eye out.

POPSThis is your brain... on alpha-CaMKII Now if only I could gain someone's memory, I too can be a board certified M.D. ~.^ This technique appears to mask memories rather than erase them though. What was I going to say? Oh yes, the article makes it seem more like the mice had a lapse in memory rather than memory loss.

POPSRussian Army with Low Morale Imagine what a corrupt Army would have done in Chechenya all these years ... And what it will continue to do there under a KGB thug like Vladimir Putin. And American president-to-be McCain begs for money from Putin. Strange world.

POPSBig Surprise (not!): Harper Lied Hopefully, this will continue the decline of the Conservatives in the polls before the election on the 14th, and maybe we can get a party with at least a small measure of sense back in control of Canada. The Liberals may suck hugely, but they're arms and elbows above the Conservatives.

POPSSEA LEVELS AS A RESULT OF GLACIERS Melting Ice from the glaciers at the current rate will allow South Florida to remain quite enjoyable. Not so for the Atoll Islands around the world that are already sounding SOS

POPSNow The Surge Is Succeeding? .......continued... But the National Intelligence Estimate of Jan 2007 said this: Coalition capabilities, including force levels, resources, and operations, remain an essential stabilizing element in Iraq. If Coalition forces were withdrawn rapidly during the term of this Estimate, we judge that this almost certainly would lead to a significant increase in the scale and scope of sectarian conflict in Iraq, intensify Sunni resistance to the Iraqi Government, and have adverse consequences for national reconciliation. OK, so Obama opposed a surge that succeeded and advocated a policy that the NIE said at the time would lead to a disaster in Iraq. As to whether anyone could have predicted that the surge would be effective - well, Bush did introduce it this way in his January 2007 speech: President's Address to the Nation http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/01/20070110-7.html
