Evolved the ability to organize for extreme violence
einbar

"The balance of those different traits is such that perhaps all men have the ability to be warriors. We have the evolved traits necessary to turn off that empathy. But that doesn't mean there isn't any free choice and there is a lot of environmental circumstance. Nature provides the possibilities and nurture helps shape what actually happens".

Science's Alternative to an Intelligent Creator: the Multiverse Theory
Silkweaver
by Silkweaver  11-20-2008    1
The idea that the universe was made just for us—known as the anthropic principle—debuted in 1973 when Brandon Carter, then a physicist at Cambridge University, spoke at a conference in Poland honoring Copernicus, the 16th-century astronomer who said that the sun, not Earth, was the hub of the universe. Carter proposed that a purely random assortment of laws would have left the universe dead and dark, and that life limits the values that physical constants can have. By placing life in the cosmic spotlight—at a meeting dedicated to Copernicus, no less—Carter was flying in the face of a scientific worldview that began nearly 500 years ago when the Polish astronomer dislodged Earth and humanity from center stage in the grand scheme of things. Carter proposed two interpretations of the anthropic principle. The “weak” anthropic principle simply says that we are living in a special time and place in the universe where life is possible. Life couldn’t have survived in the very early universe

SearchForce's statistical-based bidding approach determines the ideal bid prices for each keyword
searchforce
by searchforce  11-17-2008
PPC Management Our smart search bid optimization technology uses highly sophisticated statistical and machine learning techniques that provide the best possible return on pay per click (PPC) advertising. Here's how we do it: SearchForce's statistical-based bidding approach determines the ideal bid prices for each keyword, or keyword group, and automatically bids on them. This allows you to boost your volume on converting keywords, save on poor performers and successfully reduce your cost per acquisition across your campaigns. Intelligent bid optimization technology identifies inefficiencies in the search marketing space and automatically exploits them to your benefit. SearchForce helps you identify and cut your losses on bleeding keywords, and improves your conversions by exploring the bid landscape of your most profitable keywords. clipped from: www.prweb.com ppc software pay per click software bid management bid optimization bid management tools paid search software pp

But in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope. by: Barack Obama ~~~~~ Not only is another world possible, she is on her way. The Greenhouse Gas That Nobody Knew
JICWyllie
by JICWyllie  11-17-2008
It's like eating mushrooms. You would soon be dead if you ate every mushroom that you didn't know was poisonous or not. The only sensible way to eat mushrooms is to only eat those you already know are not poisonous. Intelligent beings use the precautionary principle, business and technological innovators eat any mushroom / chemical they can find with the result that they (and the rest of us) are more like to end up prematurely dead. Wise men know that innovation is deadly dangerous, and that societies which are based on it risk extinction.

Faroe Islands
JackieDel
by JackieDel  11-16-2008    3
Barbarity abounds on the beautiful islands of Faroe. Can we excuse the bloodthirsty slaughter of these intelligent creatures on the basis that animals in food production also suffer, or that it's part of their culture, as some people do? Of course not! Quite apart from the fact that two wrongs do not make a right, if we justified this barbarity on the grounds of culture we'd also have to accept the practice of child marriage, suttee, clitorendectomies etc. Note too that the meat is not eaten...the animals are left to rot because heavy metal contamination renders their meat useless for human consumption according to EU standards for for human food. Aren't we a wonderful species - NOT!

Do Dolphins Have a Sense of the Future?
papananook
by papananook  11-14-2008    1
I had a wonderful experience with a mated pair of Hawaiian Bottlenose dolphins...When I was on a longliner Tuna boat we would stop for lunch at the end of the flagline and one day a male dolphin stuck his nose on the gunwale edge and squawked loudly and then swam a sort distance back down the line...then back and repeated the message...we ran down the line until we found his mate, who had tried to steal our bait (Look, honey, free breakfast!) and got hooked on her lip! rather than tear her lip she sent Hubby to us for the rescue! I swear she sat her cute little nose on the gunwale and patiently waited while I removed the hook...thanked us with a flip and some clicxkin, squeeling and swam off! Amazing! This was my first falling in love with Dolphins and Whales came later.

Miranda, a composer and computer scientist at the University of Plymouth in the UK, hopes that such collaborations between singing robots will one day help him to compose music that no human would ever come up with. "The robots develop their own musical culture. There are no pre-programmed musical rules." This is interesting. We begin to encounter evolution in different dimensions. This is a path for a new intelligent specie... if you haven't seen, i recommend WALL·E movie :)
