POPSVice-President Cheney Indicted in Texas
The indictments have started. More should happen once these corrupt men are out of office. This first such indictment also shows how such indictments can be easily done all over the country. In some states even citizens can start a petition for a criminal indictment. (Of course, reasons are needed and a link to a specific injured person or specific crime in that state, etc. are required). The worm has turned. The recent elections were a LANDSLIDE VICTORY for the Democrats, even largest they they could have dreamed. It was a crushing blow to the Republicans and no matter what charade or trash talk they want to continue with, they have been firmly knocked out of all political power in D.C. If folks like us and millions elsewhere who we know care about these issues and have worked hard for this change - just continue to lobby for justice, speak out for the need for war crime & other trials, then these guys won't get away. Justice is needed, or evils thend to happen ag

POPS Why Bailouts Scare Stocks The nation's largest insurance company has been virtually nationalized, surely a draconian solution. These surprises are always rationalized as a means of "stabilizing markets" or "restoring confidence" - yet the AIG deal is not the first "bailout" to inspire more terror than calm. Left alone, financial markets usually work out the best possible deals among competing interests. Whenever the feds have gotten involved, by contrast, they've taken sides in the tension between stockholders and creditors - invariably throwing stockholders overboard. Owners of common stock are supposed to be last in line during an actual bankruptcy, getting leftover scraps after creditors pick a firm's assets to the bone. ankruptcy was involved only in the case of Lehman - the one time the feds kept their hands off. From Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson and Fed chief Ben Bernanke on down, top officials have shown too little confidence in markets and too much confidence in themselves.

POPSNever underestimate the Democrats... ... and their ability to be wishy-washy and to work against their own self-interests. What do you get when you cross an elephant and a donkey? A big ass named Joe Lieberman.

POPSUnofficial Translation of U.S.-Iraq Troop Agreement from the Arabic Text Iraq owns all the buildings and installations, the nontransferable structures on the ground that are located in the areas and installations agreed upon, including those the U.S. utilizes, constructs, changes or improves. At withdrawal, the U.S. will return all the installations and the agreed upon areas allocated for the use of the U.S. combat forces according to two lists (of inventory) to the Iraqi government. The first of these is to be submitted covering the installations and agreed upon areas as soon as the agreement is implemented. And the other list is to be submitted no later than June 30, 2009, the appointed date for U.S. Forces withdrawal from cities, towns and villages. And the Iraqi government has the right to permit the U.S. Forces to use some necessary installations for this agreement's purposes at withdrawal.

POPSCheney, Gonzales indicted for alleged prisoner abuse A little more from the article to finish it. "Now, with only a few weeks left in his term, Mr. Guerra has again chosen to misuse his position in an attempt to seek revenge on those who he sees as political enemies." Cheney spokeswoman Megan Mitchell said, "The vice president has not received an indictment."

POPSAll there in my parallel universe another example from the article: "China, which is planning a series of different virtual worlds able to host not tens but hundreds of millions of avatars. The idea is to attract people (as avatars) from around the world to come and buy Chinese goods more cheaply from source. In this way they plan to capture the value added to a shirt that leaves a Chinese factory for a dollar but is sold in London for $20."

POPSTHE PROBLEM OF CONSCIOUSNESS Interesting read. some more: "On the traditional conception of the mind, if you want to study experience, you shut your eyes and you introspect. You look inward and reflect on what is going on inside of you, on the inner show" "To reflect on experience is not to look inward, it is to pay attention to what you are doing, and to the way in which what you are doing is world and situation and environment involving. " "A much better image is that of the dancer. A dancer is locked into an environment, responsive to music, responsive to a partner. The idea that the dance is a state of us, inside of us, or something that happens in us is crazy. Our ability to dance depends on all sorts of things going on inside of us, but that we are dancing is fundamentally an attunement to the world around us. "

POPSBush cheers “free enterprise” as US capitalism goes bust "Bush's message to those assembling in Washington was clear: Nothing will be accepted that interferes with the unfettered accumulation of wealth by America's financial elite and the defense of their interests, regardless the cost to the world's population."

POPSMore on GOP off track Ron Paul seems to be getting a lot of support from middle America as well as the traditional conservatives.

POPSHugo Schwyzer on Proposition 8 Boycotts And those who gave time and energy and money to support a cause that was fundamentally antithetical to justice cannot expect acceptance and bonhomie from their colleagues whose rights have been stripped away as a consequence.

POPSIAD, Internet Addiction Disorder "US academics have found that more than one in eight Americans showed at least one possible sign of problematic internet use, with some web surfers already starting to seek medical help." "The Chinese manual would be the first of its kind in the world, adding to the controversy over whether compulsive internet use should be officially viewed as a mental disorder." I think that eventually we will have to recognize it as an added capability of the human, the netting/wired sense or a sort. certainly not a disorder.

POPSObama's 'Change' and Rahm-bo: Neo-conned Again? This article, if read, will burst the bubble of belief by Obama cheerleaders. (Did Pelosi or a Dem Congress change anything either?) Roberts does not spare Obama any more than he did Bush: War policy: In “Hail to the Chief of Staff,” Alexander Cockburn describes Emanuel as “a super-Likudnik hawk,” who as chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in 2006 “made great efforts to knock out antiwar Democratic candidates.” The neoconservatives were and are intimately tied to the Israeli Likud Party with its militant Zionist war agenda for a "new middle east". On Economy: Obama’s advisers are drawn from the same gang of Washington thugs and Wall Street banksters as Bush’s. Consider Obama's support of Lieberman then too, who supported McCain and is another "super-Likudnik hawk" when it comes to Israel and war policy. Get the picture yet? Some very important policies (primary ones) will not "change" at a

POPSObama Transition Team Limits Lobbyists The specifics, from Change.gov : Federal Lobbyists cannot contribute financially to the transition. Federal lobbyists are prohibited from any lobbying during their work with the transition. If someone has lobbied in the last 12 months, they are prohibited from working in the fields of policy on which they lobbied. If someone becomes a lobbyist after working on the Transition, they are prohibited from lobbying the Administration for 12 months on matters on which they worked. A gift ban that is aggressive in reducing the influence of special interests.

POPSLogic? Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools. A president lying about an extramarital affair is a impeachable offense, but a president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy. Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet. The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but George Bush's driving record is none of our business. Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're a conservative radio host. Then it's an illness and you need our prayers for your recovery. Supporting "Executive Privilege" for every Republican ever born, who will be born or who might be born( in perpetuity.)

POPSConned Again My despondent friends in the Israeli peace movement ask, “What is this man doing in Obama’s administration?” This is a very interesting article on Obama's choice of staff and if there will be a real change or not.

POPSObama Will Reverse Bush Executive Orders Mr. Podesta is John Podesta of the Center for American Progress. Another order being reviewed is the EPA's ruling on stricter emissions standards for California. Pretty much every president does this, but expect special interests on the right to howl anyway.
