POPSAmericans Fail Civic Literacy Quiz Earning a college degree does little to increase knowledge of America’s history, key texts, and institutions. Only 24% of college graduates know the First Amendment prohibits establishing an official religion for the United States. Only 54% can correctly identify a basic description of the free enterprise system, in which all Americans participate. I felt bad for getting a B, but some of these results are just pathetic...not really too surprising though.

POPSObama Will Reverse Bush Executive Orders Mr. Podesta is John Podesta of the Center for American Progress. Another order being reviewed is the EPA's ruling on stricter emissions standards for California. Pretty much every president does this, but expect special interests on the right to howl anyway.

POPSMungo MacCallum - Political Corrections If you wish to learn a little about Australian politics, this is as good a place as any to start. So Rudd wants Australia to play a bigger part of the world stage. Big deal, that's the way the rest of the world is going.

POPSTwo Hispanic Hillary Clinton Supporters Endorse John McCain Secaira, who is of Dominican descent, traveled to eight states to coordinate grassroots efforts for Senator Clinton, has a doctorate of neuropsychology and was trained at New York University. ARLINGTON, VA — Today, McCain-Palin 2008 held a press conference call with Miguel D. Lausell, Senior Political Advisor to Hillary Clinton, and Clinton Delegate-at-Large Luchy Secaira. Both Lausell and Secaira endorsed John McCain for president. On Barack Obama’s recent ad that used out-of-context quotes from Rush Limbaugh to insinuate that John McCain insulted Hispanics: Secaira: “There goes the new politics. I don’t see anything new about put-down politics. And once again, I want to reiterate that the Hispanic community has nothing to fear because they know John McCain. uppitywoman08.wordpress.com

POPSVideo: Why Hasn't Obama Fired Howard Gutman? "So you are judging her parenting skills," Ingraham said. "You're saying you don't think she's a good parent for doing this job." "I'm saying the proper criticism is not that it's a woman or man – it doesn't matter whether it's Todd or Sarah," Gutman said. Gutman explicitly goes to great lengths to avoid offending women voters. He is obviously more afraid of vanquished opponent Hillary and her PUMAs than his own boss, Barack Obama: Obama should have fired Howard Gutman immediately for his insubordination, instead he has a spokesman issue a typically flaccid warning: Obama spokesman Bill Burton, asked to respond to Gutman's remarks, said "Obviously these comments do not reflect our frequently stated views that families of the candidates should be off limits." Gutman directly challenged the leadership of Obama and gets away scott free with an emailed apology to a reporter Obama fails yet another mind-boggling simple test of his authority.

POPSHis Temper Would Place This Country at Risk "What happens if he gets angry in crisis" in the presidency?" Hinz asked. "It's difficult enough to be a negotiator, but it's almost impossible when you're the type of guy who's so angry at anybody who doesn't do what he wants. It's the president's job to negotiate and stay calm. I don't see that he has that quality." "I've just seen too much. That temper, the intolerance: It worries me."

POPSClimate Democracy
The point is fundamental. Whether warming or cooling is beneficial depends largely on where you live. Federal control of climate is therefore inappropriate. International control, even worse. Climate democracy requires local control. If the political discussion remains national during this election season, the candidates should – at the very least – choose vice presidential running mates who favor warming: at least acknowledging that the north matters. Local climate control: how can it be done? - the facts are these. To say that climate engineering is in a pre-early stage of development is a vast understatement. There is no such thing. Governments can no more control climate globally than they can locally. We have a long, long way to go technologically before any such thing as climate democracy can become reality. Wake up and smell the crap – it’s a scam! They want to raise taxes and increase government control over earthly endeavors and you won’t get anything for it in return.

POPSIsrael cuts off Palestinian tax funds as relations hit new low You wonder how a society can stomach so much cruelty and barbarity. But armed with stories of how much they were persecuted in Nazi Germany, these "victims" feel absolutely wonderful and even cheerful about the extent its cruelty to an entire people. What is wrong with Israel? I cannot fathom how it can be the direct source of so much pain and mistery. Any society with a heart and soul would be embarrassed and ashamed that their beloved country perpetrates terrorism and cruelty - mostly at the innocent. Israel withholds money that is rightfully tax revenues for Palestinians, keep the enormous amount of interest and then turn around and have the gall to say people just pick on poor peaceful Israel.

POPSMcCain mimics Bush on illegal wiretapping “As for McCain, himself, saying about six months ago, ‘I don’t think the president has the right to disobey a law. ‘ It’s notable that in the very same interview, he also said, ‘there are some areas where the statutes don’t apply such as the surveillance of overseas communications.’”

POPSMcCain's Two Positions on Wiretaps Yeah, about that position -- it's kinda new and kinda 180 degrees off his previous position. Wonder why? Raw Story : While McCain's position on wiretaps and telcos is zigging this way and that, a new report also details the extent to which lobbyists who earned a living representing the very phone companies accused of breaking the law are now working for his campaign. The Electronic Frontier Foundation, which is leading the charge against telco immunity and representing plaintiffs in several pending lawsuits, lays out the connections ... How awkward...

POPSGeneral William Odom "Among senior military people, he was probably the first to consider the war in Iraq a misbegotten adventure," Brzezinski said yesterday. "He believed that we're just stoking hostility to the United States in that region and developing an opposition that cannot be defeated by military means. He was very outspoken." Well before the U.S.-led invasion in 2003, Gen. Odom warned that military action in Iraq would be foolhardy and futile. He outlined his positions in The Washington Post's Outlook section Feb. 11, 2007, in the essay "Victory Is Not an Option." "The president's policy is based on illusions, not realities," he wrote. "There never has been any right way to invade and transform Iraq."

POPSUN to Fact Check US/Israeli Bombing of Syria Nuke Site Two questions: 1. what took so long? 2. who gave the UN any authority to limit who has nuclear energy or weapons? The UN is a global gang that has usurped authority to itself, and looks the other way when its members want. We will see what conclusion they draw versus the unsubstantiated US and Israeli allegations before they invaded and bombed a sovereign country, which was probably an attempt to provoke war as the neocons want.

POPSHerbicide review 'fails' the environment The review recommends changes on labels to reduce the risk of the herbicide contaminating waterways. I'm sure that's physically impossible. Unless we can work out how to grow dry plants. There is also a cop out, saying that it is the responsibility of the States to ensure this happens. The don't mention how, apart from the warning on the label.

POPSHe's the Commander for Iraq. He may be a hero, but thank goodness he claims not to have any political aspirations! Petraeus graduated from West Point in 1974, earned a M.P.A. in 1985 and a Ph.D. in international relations in 1987 from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, and served as an Assistant Professor of International Relations at the U.S. Military Academy from 1985 to 1987, but does not know the answer to that question?????!
