11 Public Transit Agencies Pleaded With Congress For Bailout
merrie
by merrie  11-20-2008
And the banks were able to rely on frequent lease payments while writing off taxes on the depreciating property. The IRS ended such leasing arrangements in 2004 and is pressuring banks to stop the tax shelters by the end of the year. Metro, the Washington area’s transit system, agreed last week with a bank immediately seeking $43 million from one such financing deal following talks overseen by a federal judge. Terms were not disclosed on the judge’s instructions. Metro general manager John Catoe noted Tuesday that Metro still faces 14 similar financing deals. He said having to settle all of them in court would lead to hefty legal costs and other expenses. The other three agencies seeking government help are in Sacramento and San Jose in California and New Jersey Transit.

A Wasted Vote (Not in the Least)
sahara
by sahara  11-3-2008    1
So, why not (for once in your life, perhaps) cast a vote purely for principle! Vote for someone who is truly pro-life. Someone who would quickly secure our nation's borders, and end the invasion of our country by illegal aliens. Someone who would, on his first day in office, release Border Patrol agents Ramos and Compean and fire U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton. Someone who would immediately, upon assuming office, begin leading the charge to dismantle the Federal Reserve, overturn the 16th Amendment, expunge the IRS, and return America to sound money principles. Someone who would get the US out of the UN. Someone who would stop spending billions and trillions of dollars for foreign aid. Someone who would prosecute the Wall Street bankers who defrauded the American people out of billions of dollars. Someone who would work to repeal NAFTA, CAFTA, GATT, the WTO, and stop the NAFTA superhighway. Someone who would say a resounding "No" to the New World Order. Someone who would stop using our br

With so many stories like this popping up this year, I'm really starting to like the idea of abolishing religious tax exemptions. They should only maintain exemption for the money they get for social assistance programs. They want a nice big fancy church, they should pay taxes on that just like everyone else. They set up a shelter for the homeless, as with secular programs, they receive tax exemption.

No Political Sermons?
oscarrob
by oscarrob  10-6-2008
The good old days when powerful politicians could stomp all over free speech. "The debate over Jones’s bill and Johnson’s amendment reveals once again how confusing and confused church-state jurisprudence is and has always been and will always be. Both sides claim that the other is violating the separation of church and state. Barry Lynn, a minister who is executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, argues that “We just can’t have sermons converted into political advertisements for candidates,” and he warns against using “church collection plate money on an ad telling people” to vote for one candidate rather than another. " Oh come on. Seperating church and state is one thing. Stopping the clergy from making political statements is a whole different and very dangerous ballgame. Are you going to stop the clergy from speaking on immigration? How about speaking out about the plight of the poor? Should they stop making speeches about genocide? I

This reminds me of a rerun of the movie JAWS lol Oh hell just when I was thinking of doing a little bit more with Alertpay as well. I've always been a bit skeptical of alertpay since the Bob Krimm - TriStar media days. There was another large autosurf Bob put on his saviour suit and offered to rescue. 13 daily something? I'll edit this with full name of that one once I do a search back.. One thing I've sent other payment gateways heads up of dodgy websites, e-gold and LibertyReserve to name just two/ I've ways get a response back. With Alertpay nothing, not even an acknowledgment of receiving the url or info.

Roll Back The Tax Cuts: An Exercise In Shady Financing
merrie
by merrie  7-28-2008    2
Here's their spin: "Well yes, it's true that the Bush cuts are already scheduled to roll back. And it's also true that even in Washington you can't repeal the same cut twice to raise money. But we should assume that Congress will act to restore the cuts once they expire. Then, we can repeal the restored cuts, and that will generate billions in "new" revenue. I don't make up this stuff. They want us to assume that Speaker Pelosi & Co. will pass big tax breaks for wealthy Americans. And we are also to believe that - maybe even on the same day - they'll "roll back the tax cut." Somehow, magically, this now-you-see-it, now-you-don't tax cut will raise billions from the rich. This way, politicians can pay for all their proposed new spending without adding any red ink. Understand?

You Owe $455,000
sahara
by sahara  7-19-2008    2
  * “People seem to think the government has money,” said former U.S. Comptroller General David Walker. “The government doesn’t have any money“ * The United States Department of the Treasury and the Office of Management and Budget published a report stating that the U.S. cannot grow our way out of the government’s liabilities, that the liabilities are quickly growing, and that failing to take drastic and immediate action would lead to very bad consequences (the report was written in 2006) * The International Monetary Fund - which oversees third-world economies - are so concerned about the solvency of the U.S. economy that they are conducting a complete audit of the whole US financial system If you owed $455,000, you might very well have to file for bankruptcy, unless you had some rich uncle who could bail you out. But if your uncle had bailed you out numerous times in the past and if you had consistently broke your promises to re-pay him - he’d probably cut you off

Stroke the Rich
sahara
by sahara  4-25-2008    3
The IRS has become a subsidy system for super-wealthy Americans IRS winks at rich deadbeats. Because the news media focus on what politicians say about the tax system, rather than how it actually operates, few Americans realize that: -- Corporate income tax laws reward companies that move jobs offshore, allowing them to earn untaxed profits as long as the money stays offshore. -- Widespread cuts in health insurance and pensions for the rank-and- file are driven by a special law that lets top executives defer paying taxes for years, in a way that adds 35 percent to the cost of their bloated pay. -- The 2001 Bush tax cuts included a stealth tax increase on the middle class and upper-middle class that will cost them a half trillion dollars in the first 10 years and, for 35 million families, wiping out part or all of their Bush tax cuts. -- The stealth tax boost on people making $30,000 to $500,000 was explicitly used to make sure that the super rich would get their entire Bush tax

New York's Governor Spitzer Politically Close To Being Dead
merrie
by merrie  3-10-2008    1
Prosecutors from the office of Manhattan U.S. Attorney Michael Garcia announced on March 6 the arrest of four individuals connected to an international prostitution and money-laundering ring called the ``Emperors Club.'' The four individuals were charged with using the club to arrange trysts between wealthy male clients and more than 50 prostitutes in New York, Washington, Miami, Los Angeles, London and Paris, the complaint said. Garcia's office said the ``Emperors Club'' took in more than $1 million from its international business and accepted payments in cash. The ring also used an Internet Web site to advertise its services and included photos with hourly rates. The most high-ranked prostitute's fees started at $5,500 per hour, the complaint said. Investigators executed three search warrants on locations tied to the club. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Internal Revenue Service.

Huckabee is Learning

"If we don’t cut spending now, higher taxes and economic disaster will be in their future — and yours. In addition, the Federal Reserve, our central bank, fosters runaway debt by increasing the money supply — making each dollar in your pocket worth less.” These statements, along with his recent "abolish the IRS" talk, one has to take notice, I think he has learned a thing or two from Ron Paul. He just has to be careful, they will start censoring and slandering him if he keeps this up!
