Governator Bail out plan: Rob the poor & give to the rich
deadcowkid
by deadcowkid  11-21-2008
We cannot allow our government to put the burden of it's failed policies on the backs of our seniors, poor, disabled and immigrants. How arnold sleeps at night I don't know. I refuse to capitalize this mans name. He refuses to enact a 1% tax increase on the most wealthy, (something even Ronald Reagan did during a recession. ) while proposing tax increases on the poor during a recession. It's immoral and insulting when the blind and disabled will not get a cost of living increase this year while politicians like Carole Migden get six-figure salaries for serving on the Integrated Waste Management Board, whom Beyond the Chron says is a known patronage slush fund.

2012 - New Car Debut
ColoradoRight
by ColoradoRight  11-20-2008    1
Best of all, the Pelosi GTxi SS/Rt is made right here in the U.S.A. by fully card-checked unionized workers and Detroit's famous visionary jet-set managers. Even if you don't own one, you can enjoy the patriotic satisfaction that you're supporting the high wages, good benefits, and generous political donations that are once again making the American car industry the envy of the world.

Facial feminization surgery: the subtle differences between male & female faces
Lexica
by Lexica  11-20-2008    1
More: The male skull, Ousterhout explains, has more hooding over the eyes, whereas females have a more "open, convex orbit." During facial feminization surgery, Ousterhout pulls the face back from the forehead and removes part of the forehead bone, leaving a more feminine contour. The chin, which in men is wider and 20 percent longer than the female mandible, is reduced to female size and shape…The surgery will also lift her upper lip closer to her nose, allowing for a more feminine smile. It's a subtle difference, Ousterhout says, but men have a vertically longer upper lip than women. It's not noticeable when they smile, but when a man's lips are parted a few millimeters, the upper teeth are hidden.…the most obvious factor and biggest giveaway for transsexuals is the thyroid cartilage, or Adam's apple…Ousterhout approaches it through an incision just behind the chin to leave less obvious scarring.

LoPhatt
by LoPhatt  11-18-2008
Like them, I’ve got some bad loans out there, and I’m suffering from “market turbulence.” My nephew is into me for two grand on a college loan, and he can’t seem to get a job that doesn’t require a hair-net. Meanwhile, my bartender at the Chug-a-Lug will testify that I’m behind on my bar tabs because of the “unusual and exigent circumstances” roiling financial markets. That’s the very line that American Express used to get its snout into the public trough, so why not me?

Election Results Spur Racism
pkronfield
by pkronfield  11-16-2008    3
These things are indeed idiotic. But readers miss the point Racism has existed in open view long before the election. Every time I go in a post office and find 100% blacks working there, it's racism. When 98% of the blacks vote for Obama, it's racism. When OJ Simpson's jury finds the murderer not guilty it's racism. When employers are forced to hire a certain percentage of blacks, regardless of their abilities, it's racism. When I criticize a radical president elect who espouses Marxist ideas and am denounced as a racist, it's racism. Indeed the race problem America has resides in blacks. They are our biggest racists. So now we elect a racist president whose electorate is racist and whose policies are steeped in racism.

Forkd: save, adapt, modify recipes
Lexica
by Lexica  11-16-2008
From the "About Forkd" page: 1. We don't believe in One True Recipe for anything. Rather than pretending that anyone could ever make, say, the Ultimate Lasagna, we were more interested in encouraging as many versions as possible. We find it fascinating the way that recipes change over time, in different hands. 2. When you like a recipe, you make it yours. All recipes on Forkd have an Attribution Sharealike licence. While we believe in always acknowledging influences (this happens automatically), when you fork someone else's recipe, it becomes yours to change in any way you wish. It's like you cut it out and stuck it into your recipe file.

Trock (Timelord Rock)
cakebelly
by cakebelly  11-14-2008
continues: The band also has a new song called "Exterminate Regenerate" - it's got a synth flair and is actually quite a bit better than "Blink." You can hear it on the band's MySpace page. What can we expect next from Trock? Hopefully a huge upswelling of tragic tales of love and betrayal featuring the Master, along with some angry breakup songs from Sarah Jane. I am prepared to fully back this awesome new trend, as long as nobody spins it off into Twock - you know, Torchwood rock. I am not ready to face that quite yet. Thanks, Ria! AtlLiberal
by AtlLiberal  11-13-2008
Earlier I clipped the TED video about this movement. Here's another take on this issue. I'm on the fence somewhat with this. On one hand, finding a way to reach fundamentalists and attempt to weaken their message seems like a good idea even if it doesn't address the problems with religion as a whole. Then we have Myer's take on this here which is much more antagonistic. Which will have more of an impact? I honestly don't know.
