OBAMA IS TRYING 'TO TAKE IT' THUGLIKE

POPSChristoper Buckley Bows out of National Review While I regret this development, I am not in mourning, for I no longer have any clear idea what, exactly, the modern conservative movement stands for. Eight years of “conservative” government has brought us a doubled national debt, ruinous expansion of entitlement programs, bridges to nowhere, poster boy Jack Abramoff and an ill-premised, ill-waged war conducted by politicians of breathtaking arrogance. As a sideshow, it brought us a truly obscene attempt at federal intervention in the Terry Schiavo case. So, to paraphrase a real conservative, Ronald Reagan: I haven’t left the Republican Party. It left me. Thanks, anyway, for the memories, and here’s to happier days and with any luck, a bit less fresh hell.

POPS"Tropic Thunder" Comedy Mocks Hollywood And Movie-Makers
To save the movie, director Damien Cockburn (Steve Coogan) decides to shoot it documentary-style, with his actors improvising in the jungle. But that idea also goes awry, and the gun-toting actors find themselves up against a drug lord and his minions' real guns. The premise is amusing, though the actual plotting doesn't always make sense, especially when the actors have to face the real-life villains. And as it goes along, the pleasure is not so much from character development as a series of set pieces, such as African-American Chino's view of Lazarus' vision of an African-American, or Grossman's attempts at crisis management. Indeed, Cruise may be the funniest thing in the movie, although he gets competition, notably from Downey and from Jay Baruchel as Kevin Sandusky, the non-star in the acting ensemble. And movie buffs will have fun picking up on the allusions to other films, especially Apocalypse Now. http://www.tropicthunder.com/home.html

POPSRussia Actually Exists This article proposes ways to counter Russia on her home ground. There are other ways but this is one. The recent Georgian events were inspired by a NeoCon worldview that an audacious event precipitated by a client state just might replicate David with his sling. In this case . . .NOT! There was and remains too much to lo lose. There are pipeline and energy schemes at stake and the loss of prestige and honor by the US in its inability to cover the losses of such a small but vital little merde pile at the far end of the Black Sea. What were they thinking.

POPSParanormal Thrillers - Got to Love 'Em Good to see there is a website that is devoted to mysteries but takes into the genre the Occult and Paranormal as well. I am happy because I hope to be listed here myself one day... Humility was never a strong trait in my family...

POPSKung Fu Panda There is much to like about this movie. The story is fun, the animation is good, the characters are lovable. What I really liked about this movie was the lack of profanity, name calling, sexual innuendos, and gross humor. It is really hard to find a new movie for kids that doesn't use the word stupid. It might be in there, but I don't remember hearing it, and I usually cringe at every instance. I do not want my daughter to use derogatory language (sweet words that edify!) and it is difficult to find movies or tv that doesn't drip with it. This is a fun, heart-warming story with a lot of kung fu. It got one of the best ratings at Kids-in-Mind, too. (1, 3, 1)

The less well-known mysteries like the Babushka Lady, the Voynich Manuscript, The Taos Hum, The Zodiac Killer and the Comte de Sainte-Germaine are informative in a few short paragraphs and I suggest those interested to use this as a stepping stone into their own search for the weird, unusual, bizarre and truly unsolved mysteries.
