POPSBush Meddling in Science to Continue Beyond His Termby
Wisco Yesterday 2:23 PM One example of this is Todd Harding, hired to work at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. His qualifications? He chaired the Kentucky Federation of College Republicans. The there's Jeffrey T. Salmon, hired by the Energy dept's Office of Science. His science background? He was a speechwriter for Dick Cheney. The piece goes on: "I believe it's unethical to do this. Clearly the people voted for change," Boxer said. She said she had discussed the issue with members of President-elect Barack Obama's transition team, adding: "They are on top of it." Here's hoping they can do something about it.

POPSBush Pardons Could Defend Unlawful Administration Acts The Founders warned against such pardons for good reason, yet Bush in his final act may do just that. Such makes a President a law unto himself. James Madison and George Mason argued that the reason we needed the impeachment power was that a president might some day try to pardon someone for a crime that he himself was involved in. This is nothing less than anarchy from the Executive Branch.

POPS Evil Concealed By Money by Walter E. Williams The bottom line is that we've become a nation of thieves, a value rejected by our founders. James Madison, the father of our Constitution, was horrified when Congress appropriated $15,000 to help French refugees. He said, "I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents." Tragically, today's Americans would run Madison out of town on a rail.

POPS The world has never seen such freezing heat This is an astonishing admission: the figures published by Dr Hansen's institute are not only one of the four data sets that the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) relies on to promote its case for global warming, but they are the most widely quoted, since they consistently show higher temperatures than the others. Dr Pachauri, a former railway engineer with no qualifications in climate science, may believe what Dr Hansen tells him. But whether, on the basis of such evidence, it is wise for the world's governments to embark on some of the most costly economic measures ever proposed, to remedy a problem which may actually not exist, is a question which should give us all pause for thought.

POPSMOVIE Of The YEAR: "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" Based on a best-selling fiction novel for kids of the same name, "Striped PJs" is about Bruno, the eight-year-old son of a rising Nazi officer. His father gets promoted to the position of Commandant of a concentration camp, and the young boy must leave his friends for a large, cold, dark house a mile from the camp. It's also the best movie of the year, and I can't say enough good things about it. This poignant film should be must viewing for everyone interested in preserving our freedoms and civilization as we know it.

POPSA CRP Thought Over in the article on theheart.org, Jim Stein puts a point on an idea that came out of last week's Jupiter results: CRP tests may help doctors communicate with patients even if those patients would have been picked up by other risk factors like obesity.
