POPSLives of the Rich & Famous: McCains own 13 cars But, hey, with all those houses, and errands to run... There was a time when I had no automobile at all ... (Barack and Michelle have one between them, BTW.) Perhaps a good economic stimulus plan would be a giveaway of the McCains' extra houses and cars. Hey, we live in America - they could say - we've got a right to be rabid materialists.

POPSIsrael IS the Crime Its right there on the video, but the Jewish propagandist are already out in force on fora throughout the net defending the indefensible. Truly a cult without an ounce of shame. Then they have the gall to say to anyone that sees anything wrong with what takes place in the video or the fact that this Jew soldier will never see a single day in jail - video evidence and all - must be anti-Semetic. Riiight. No shame - No conscience.

POPSShooting the messenger The changing threat to the press in battle zones. Shana'a's case is but one of many in recent years which has indicated that journalists reporting from conflict zones are no longer regarded as impartial by the combatants. As a result, increasing numbers of journalists have joined the casualty lists. The deliberate targeting of the press in war zones can probably be dated back to the Balkan conflict of the 1990's. When the shocking atrocities committed by the Serbs, Bosnian Muslims and Croats were filmed or reported, the media fell under suspicion, and was accused of supporting one faction against another.

POPSTruth Or Consequences "I can’t say it better than my friend Tim Shriver, the chairman of Special Olympics, did in a Memorial Day essay in The Washington Post: “So Dodge wants to sell you a car you don’t really want to buy, that is not fuel-efficient, will further damage our environment, and will further subsidize oil states, some of which are on the other side of the wars we’re currently fighting. ... The planet be damned, the troops be forgotten, the economy be ignored: buy a Dodge.”

POPSBlogging to Save Africa's Wildlife When tourism in Kenya declined sharply earlier this year (see my 2/29 clip), it threatened not only the livelihood of locals, but also the country's wildlife. As this story points out, when tourism declined, the Mara Conservancy had to scrape together funds to pay rangers responsible for keeping animals safe from poachers. An entrepreneurial ranger did his best soliciting donations via his blog, Twitter and Flicker. Now he's helping other rangers adopt the same approach. See his website here: http://maratriangle.wildlifedirect.org/.

POPSThe World's Oldest Land Rover Rides Again
Now owned by Tata, Land Rover celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. After WWII, steel was in short supply and Rover needed it to build cars, but the UK government demanded guarantees of good overseas sales before supplies would be forthcoming. Wilks envisiged a "stopgap model", one that appealed to foreign markets. He and his brother Spencer (Rover's MD) owned a farm on Anglesey where their families holidayed. They used a war-surplus Willys Jeep as a template but found weaknesses in its design and Maurice reasoned they could do better. The brothers walked along the vast sands of Red Wharf Bay on Anglesey, talking about their idea and sketched a basic design for the vehicle in the damp sand. It would offer the benefits of a tractor with on-road usability. The Land Rover was born. The marque is recognised across the globe and the original has proved to be the most versatile of all vehicles, but an Anglesey beach is where it all began, with a drawing in the sand 61 years ago.
